JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Promote the mission and philosophy of NPHS by being helpful, courteous and positive with co-workers and clients of NPHS, refraining from gossip or mean comments regarding co-workers or clients of NPHS and by supporting management decisions, policies and projects.
2. Maintain an open, friendly, and cooperative relationship with each child’s family, encourage their involvement in the program, and promote parent-child bonding and nurturing parent-child relationships.
3. Promote feelings of security and trust in infants and toddlers by being warm, supportive, and comforting, and by establishing strong and caring relationships with them.
4. Provide toddlers with experiences and opportunities that allow them to develop curiosity, initiative, problem-solving skills, and creativity, as well as a sense of self and a feeling of belonging to the group.
5. Provides center-based services to families enrolled in the EHS program.
6. Develop and implement an individualized, developmentally appropriate plan for each child and family that meets program standards and the family’s needs.
7. Demonstrate and communicate knowledge of infant/toddler development and methods to promote that development during the family’s daily routines.
8. Plan and participate in field trips and related activities which stimulate child/family interactions.
9. Recruit parent volunteers and assists with field trips.
10. Follow emergency procedures and universal precautions as outlines in the performance standards.
11. Attend conferences and trainings as required.
12. Complete all paperwork accurately and on time.
13. Design the center environment so that it supports the development of infants/toddlers.
14. Ensure the safety and security of all infants/toddlers at all times.
15. Use age and developmentally appropriate activities, utilizing the appropriate Infant/Toddler curriculum.
16. Complete and enter observation notes on each child assigned daily.
17. Responsible for operation of center on daily basis.
18. Oversee compliance with all operational and educational policies.
19. Maintain staff ratio at all times never leaving a child unattended.
20. Sit with toddlers during mealtime and assure family style meals according to Child Care Licensing and Head Start Performance Standards.
21. Responsible to carry out daily activities of center and direct care of children.
22. Develop and implement nutrition plans for children at center.
23. Assure that individualized attention is provided to children according to their developmental levels.
24. Change diapers of children following Child Care Licensing Regulations.
25. Consult with component specialists regarding special needs, services needed and problems of the children and families.
26. Encourage and integrate parent participation into daily center activities and any other activities in which the children are involved. (ex: feeding, diapering, health screenings)
27. Schedule and participate in parent/staff meetings to access the infant/toddler’s progress and problems, and to plan center activities.
28. Conduct on-going growth and developmental assessments of all infants and toddlers 4 times a year and more often if necessary.
29. Conduct the required number of home visits with parents or guardians of each child assigned during the school year.
30. Maintain all confidential files on each child enrolled.
31. Complete file checks on children’s files regularly.
32. Assure all educational materials, toys and supplies are in good repair and sanitized following Child Care Licensing.
33. Assure all play, rest, instructional areas, rest rooms, and storage rooms are clean and safe and inspect playground daily removing any hazards such as nails, garbage etc.
34. Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Willingness to obtain Infant/Toddler CDA
2. At least one year’s experience in working with children and families.
3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
4. Ability to develop consistent, stable and supportive relationships with very young children and their parents
5. Certification in infant/child/adult first aid and CPR.
6. Valid driver’s license and properly insured automobile.
7. Knowledge of community resources in the area.
8. Ability to work varied hours.
9. Basic computer skills.
