Summary: (summary statement/brief overview of position)
The Information Security Analyst will work as part of the Information Security Team who protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information in Harvard Business Publishing’s cloud service network and internal business networks. The Information Security Analyst will be responsible for analyzing security events, enriching event data through contextual and threat analysis, and responding to, re-mediating, and coordinating incident response actions with other stakeholders both internal and external. The successful candidate must be able to learn about existing processes and systems, evaluate them for weaknesses, and make improvements that will make security operations more effective and efficient.
Key Responsibilities: (specific key duties/responsibilities of position)
- Identify, correlate, assess, and react to real-time security events, vulnerabilities, and network traffic changes
- Conduct investigations into suspicious activities and escalate as necessary
- Provide detailed technical analysis of phishing emails to determine origin and potential risk
- Identify shortcomings in monitoring and response capabilities and make improvements
- Assist with incident response, including identification and containment
- Write and enhance technical articles for internal knowledge base
- Collaborate with internal business teams when conducting analysis of interesting events
- Assist in providing security education and awareness to employees
Requirements: (education, experience, communication/organization skills, work environment, etc.)
- One to two years of experience in the information security field
- Experience with computer network penetration testing and techniques
- Hands-on experience with firewalls, proxies, SIEM/Log management, antivirus, and intrusion prevention devices
- Knowledge of how to identify and mitigate security vulnerabilities and explain how to avoid them
- Understanding of patch management with the ability to discuss business impact
- Diverse technical knowledge, e.g. O/S environments, Windows, Mac, Linux
- Exposure to coding/scripting languages
- Understands basic web and network architectures
- Exposure to Active Directory/Windows Domains
- Cloud computing experience, e.g. MS Azure, Amazon AWS, Google Cloud
- Strong knowledge of security threats and information security terminology
- Effective analytical skills
- The ability to multi-task
- Good communication, technical documentation, and report writing skills
- Proven ability to work in team environment
- Attention to detail and organizational skills
- Comfortable executing in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
- Ability to articulate complex scenarios and outcomes to their manager
- Demonstration of continuing ability to self-teach
- Relevant security certifications such as Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), Security+, and GIAC are preferred
