A. OBJECTIVE

The primary role of the Pricing Analyst to use expert knowledge of the Intermodal transportation industry, shipping methods, carrier costs, products and services to establish rates to meet Sales initiatives and customer requirements. The incumbent sources, negotiates, maintains and communicates information concerning Intermodal products and services ensuring competitive rates are presented to the Sales and Operations Teams.

B. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Provide rates to external and internal customers.
  • Provide customers and / or Sales with rate confirmation letters with pricing and terms / conditions.
  • Negotiate rates and special pricing for specific customer lanes, commodities and volume with rail or dray carriers that offer the highest return to Radiant Road and Rail.
  • Ensure complete information is provided to the Pricing team in order to facilitate competitive pricing. Follow-up with the customer or salesperson to secure complete information.
  • Complete rate profile entry and maintenance.
  • Understand the wide array of carriers, their capabilities and routes to align competitive pricing opportunities.
  • Monitor, review and communicate rate and service changes to Sales, Intermodal Operations and customers.

o Provide guidance to Sales and Operations to manage customer price adjustments. Review routing options in an effort to maximize margin.

o Provide updated costing for operational issues that are affected by rail rate changes or expirations.

o Provide updated rate confirmations to Sales and directly to the customer in a timely manner.

  • Work with Intermodal Operations to understand dray carrier performance and utilize that information when creating rates.
  • Investigate and resolve rail, dray and customer rate discrepancies to ensure rates are valid. Communicate and make appropriate adjustments in the system.
  • Promote other Radiant Road and Rail services wherever possible.
  • Provide input to senior management and assist with projects as required (e.g. tenders).
  • Maintain competitiveness in the marketplace by identifying and implementing new industry initiatives with capable carriers.
  • Other duties and assignments as required.


C. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

Education and Industry Knowledge

  • High school diploma.
  • Strong knowledge of North American geography.
  • Bachelor / Associate degree in Business, Logistics, or related discipline is an asset.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in the intermodal transportation industry.
  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of intermodal rates and factors the impact them (i.e. seasonality, etc.) is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of the North American railroad transportation industry, domestic US and crossborder.

Technical Skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (e.g., Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams).
  • Intermediate computer skills required in Excel (i.e., pivot tables, formulas, graphs).
  • Working knowledge of bid web applications is an asset ( Lean, Jagger, Ariba, etc )
  • Working knowledge of transportation management software ( DAT, AS400, etc)

Work Schedule

  • Full time schedule of minimum 8 hours per day with flexibility to complete all required job duties and responsibilities.

D. COMMUNICATION

Following are the key contacts the position deals with on a regular and recurring basis inside and outside Radiant Road and Rail:

Inside:

  • Sales – Gather requests. Provide pricing information for current and potential customers.
  • Operations – Gather, provide and update information on rates and carrier capacity
  • Administration - Resolve dray, rail and customer billing discrepancies
  • Other Radiant business units – Provide intermodal pricing as required

Outside:

  • Customers – Gathers request and provide pricing information.
  • Vendors
  • Railroads - Negotiate special pricing based on volume and value. Participate in business reviews.
  • Dray providers - Negotiate special pricing based on volume and value. Participate in on boarding calls and business reviews
  • 3rd Party providers - Negotiate special pricing based on volume and value. Participate in business reviews


E. FREEDOM TO ACT

The incumbent is expected to provide transportation solutions and as such has the freedom to commit Radiant Road and Rail resources to facilitate the pricing activity. The incumbent is free to arrange routes and rates within Radiant Road and Rail goals and guidelines but must seek pricing and routing approval from the Manager, Highway and Intermodal Pricing prior to formalizing activities with the carrier or customer when the cost exceeds those goals and guidelines.
