The Opportunity:
The International Program Advisor is responsible for coordinating and implementing pre-arrival and onboarding procedures for F and J international students in all programs. Issues certificates of eligibility (Form I-20 and Form DS-2019) to for the purpose of visa issuance or F and J status maintenance. This position verifies student non-immigrant status during SEVIS registration according to Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) federal regulations. Additionally, coordinates the delivery of pre-arrival information sessions for incoming international students and holds DSO and ARO status. Reports to the Assistant Director, International Student and Scholar Services.
Responsibilities:
  • Advises prospective and admitted international students regarding the documents and processes necessary to be granted a Form I-20 or Form DS-2019 from the University of Central Florida.
  • Verifies immigration support documents and enters relevant information into both university database and the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS). Follows up with students who have invalid immigration support documents. Generates the Form I-20 an Form DS-2019 for qualifying students.
  • Counsels qualifying international students through the student or exchange visitor visa application process, SEVIS transfer process, or change of non-immigrant status process depending on specific need. Formally checks in new international students upon arrival into the United States.
  • Coordinates and delivers regularly occurring pre-arrival information sessions and workshops to newly admitted students.
  • Leads the change-of-level process for non-degree students transitioning from the Intensive English Program or UCF Global Achievement Academy into degree-seeking programs at the university.
  • Collaborates with various campus partners including Undergraduate Admissions, Graduate Admissions, Global Admissions, and UCF Athletics regarding admissions status of international students.
  • Assists in the onboarding of new staff members including the development of training materials, job shadowing, and standardizing operating procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree and 2+ years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a university environment.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Experience working with regulatory and compliance policies under U.S. immigration laws.
