Salary range: $32.60-$48.90/hour, depending on experience
United Health Services is seeking an Intraoperative Monitoring Technologist to join our Neuro Endovascular team in Johnson City, NY. This is a Benefits-Eligible position.
Intraoperative Monitoring Technologist Overview
Intraoperative Monitoring (IOM) Technologists perform neurophysiological monitoring in the operating room to assist with assessing the functional integrity of the peripheral and/or central nervous system during vascular, orthopedic, ENT, and neurosurgical operative procedures. Procedures recorded by the technologist include but are not limited to, electroencephalograms, evoked potentials, compressed spectral array, electrocorticography, and topographic brain mapping.
Essential Functions:
Essential functions are those tasks, duties, and responsibilities that are performed with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Reviews planned intraoperative procedures and orders for monitoring to determine the structures at risk relative to patient history/pre-existing conditions and monitoring requested.
- Makes needed adjustments in monitoring by communicating with the correct personnel
- Prepares equipment and supplies for required monitoring of patient
- Communicates the monitoring plan to the patient/caregivers/family in a language consistent with their ability to understand
- Measures and marks correct recording and stimulation sites and applies electrodes according to facility policy and procedures
- Positions monitoring equipment in the operating room to ensure patient electrical safety and communicates with team members including anesthesia, surgeon, and nursing staff
- Communicates directly with anesthesia team and surgeon to enhance monitoring results; discusses with surgeon baseline recordings according to facility policy and procedures; makes any needed adjustments in monitoring; monitors neurophysiologic central/peripheral functioning throughout the operative procedure communicating with the surgeon, neurophysiologist, anesthesia team, and nursing staff as necessary
- Recognizes clinically significant events and follows facility policy and procedures regarding critical test results.
- Documents in surgery log throughout the monitoring process all relative communications/responses, physiological status, anesthetic adjustments, and changes in verbal responses according to facility policy and procedures; discontinues monitoring and removes all monitoring and stimulation electrodes checking sites for pre-monitoring status according to facility policy and procedures.
- Provides findings, results, and a descriptive analysis according to facility policy and procedure; cleans/disinfects electrodes and equipment according to facility policy and procedures; restocks equipment and electrode supplies; prints needed documents including waveforms, neuromonitoring specialist report, and surgery log to be dictated by interpreting personnel according to facility policy and procedures; charges and logs patient
Education/Experience
Minimum Required:
- Associates Degree in Biological Science
- 2 years’ experience in healthcare diagnostic procedure setting
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Science
License/Certification
Minimum Required:
- CNIM certification within twelve (12) months of the start date
Preferred:
- CNIM certification upon start date; EEG Technologist
