IT Team Lead

General Summary of Purpose:

As our IT Team Lead, you will be responsible for leading the development team on efforts affecting multiple systems. This position will provide technical leadership for projects and team through design and code reviews, ensuring best technical practices are applied. This position will be responsible for reporting progress of development activities.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Functions

• Understand the goals and strategy behind each project from conception through completion. Lead developers to make sure each project meets or exceeds the goals we set out to achieve.
• Serve as a project lead working with users, programmers and other OTC functional areas in development and installation of software in support of projects. These can be complex projects implemented across one or more platforms.
• Provide input into the design of software systems, offering advice and thoughts and providing feedback. Estimate the time and materials required to complete a project.
• Ensure all developments are fully documented, meet high level design requirements e.g. data, customer experience, architecture, security, quality & operations, as well as regulatory & industry standards so projects are fit for purpose leaving testing & transitioning to live.
• Act as consultant to Oriental Trading Company business units by providing solutions to complex business issues through:
  • Research, development and implementation of cutting edge technical solutions.
  • Performing due diligence with internal customers.
  • Assisting in developing business requirements.
• Accurately report all development activity through status reports, report on development progress and issues, identifying remedial action when required to address problems and keep development on track.
• Demonstrate a logical and structured approach to time management and task prioritization. Work within project timelines and budgets.
• Participate in team activities and team planning with the aim of improving team skills, awareness and quality of work.
• Participate in regularly rotated on-call duties: Must be available 24 hours/day to receive calls from Operators/Users, investigate and solve issues while on call.
• Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
• Abides by all policies and procedures of Oriental Trading Company.
• Must be able to attend face to face meetings on short or little advance notice.
• Work requires in-person collaboration among colleagues and contractors.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Education

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science or closely related field required
• Master’s degree preferred

Experience

• Minimum five years experience with associated technologies used in the associated area
• Minimum five years experience with MS Project
• Minimum of three years experience as lead on initiatives greater than 500 hours
• Minimum five years experience of system troubleshooting and dump analysis techniques
• Minimum five years experience in testing techniques including all testing requirements of systems supported
• Minimum five years experience in relevant technologies associated to the development area (e.g. JAVA, RPG, SQL & JSP)

Other Qualifications and Physical Requirements

• Understand generally accepted analysis and design techniques
• Must become proficient in the daily operations at Oriental Trading Company
• Strong knowledge of applications development/maintenance for on-line and batch programming
• Knowledge of different modes of communication (e.g. RMI, Web Services, FTP...)
• Strong knowledge of SQL and JDBC or equivalent
• Able to work under pressure, meet deadlines and handle multiple projects simultaneously
• Ability to interface with customers, clients and other departments to respond to requests both in written and verbal form
• Must possess communication skills that will help in determining customer’s exact needs and in disseminating that information to appropriate personnel
