SUMMARY: The Journeyman Electrician is responsible for the safe and efficient electrical maintenance of all paper manufacturing, converting and facility equipment. This includes all equipment needed to repulp wastepaper and broke, clean and screen recovered fiber, and manufacture and convert paper. Significant experience with process industry manufacturing, high speed rotating equipment, variable speed drives, electric motors (AC and DC), soft starts, motor control centers and various instrumentation is required. The ability to forecast maintenance needs and execute work to meet timelines and budgets is a key responsibility.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Safety
- Ensure all work performed by internal resources and contractors complies with the plants safety policies and results in an incident-free work environment
- Evaluate all projects and/or work tasks prior to execution to ensure no safety hazards are created during work performed
Legal and Compliance
- Ensure the condition of all paper manufacturing, converting and facility equipment is in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations and/or codes
- Ensure all work needing professional certifications and/or stamps is identified and properly approved prior to execution
- Ensure all contractors engaged have required certifications for work they will execute
Principal Responsibilities/Activities:
· Running electrical conduit
· Diagnose failing electrical and electronic componentry
· Be able to troubleshoot pneumatic and hydraulic systems
· Very good working knowledge of power distribution and high voltage switching procedures
· Understand electrical metering
· Troubleshoot AC/DC motors and controls
· Understand electrical systems predictive maintenance testing procedures
· Perform all electrical & instrumentation maintenance including but not limited to preventive, corrective, and emergency repairs on all equipment.
· Perform installation of new or replacement electrical and instrumentation equipment, as well electrical construction.
· Locate, troubleshoot, and repair electrical & instrumentation and control system malfunctions. Document problems and results and report them to Electrical Supervisor.
· Follow standard safety procedures, correct safety and environmental hazards and report them to appropriate supervisor.
· Monitor all electrical equipment to ensure safe operation. Determine need for equipment repair or modifications and plan repair schedule.
· Calibrate mechanical and electrical instrumentation and document results.
· Proficiency in the repair of relays, switches, VFDs, supervisory controls, and indicating and recording instruments.
· Assist in engineering of new and/or replacement electrical equipment project.
· Research problem causes, equipment failures, and alternate systems.
Minimum Requirement:
· Two-year associates or technical degree (or equivalent) is desirable but not required
· 3-5 years of work experience and License as an electrician, preferably in a paper mill or industrial setting.
· Ability to diagnose, repair and/or replace and install faulty electrical componentry such as relays, switches, motors, wiring and cables, soft starts, motor control centers, printed circuits boards, lighting fixtures and power supplies.
· Competency to drive failures to root cause and implement permanent corrective actions.
· Proficiency in identifying faulty or failing motors, transformers, drives, relays and switches.
· Working knowledge of distributive control centers (DCS) and PLCs.
· Proficient knowledge of Electrical & Instrumentation; electrical equipment functioning; electrical operating procedures and standards to support cost effective, safe and efficient equipment and instrumentation maintenance, repair.
· Basic knowledge of Mechanical, Hydraulic and Pneumatic equipment to support safe and efficient minor equipment repair.
· Knowledge of federal, state, and local electric codes and environmental permit regulations pertain to electrical & instrumentation functioning.
· Knowledge and understanding of all federal, state, local and company safety procedures and ability to execute same.
· Ability to read, comprehend, and work from electrical and electronic blueprints.
· Knowledgeable in electrical and electromechanical devices to perform and direct diverse tasks involving but not limited to motors, panels, portable equipment and tools etc.
· Proficiency in the repair of relays, switches, VFDs, supervisory controls, and indicating and recording instruments.
License/Certification:
Driver's License, Electrician’s license, or 2 years at trade level
Essential Mental and Physical Functions:
· Ability to access confined spaces thru standard man ways.
· Ascend and descend stairs and stationary vertical ladders as part of normal work activity and emergency egress situations.
· Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
· Ability to move about all areas of the plant, including catwalks, deck grating and uneven surfaces.
· Ability to work under adverse conditions that may require use of company provided personal protective equipment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The job is primarily performed in a 24/7 manufacturing environment that may be noisy, hot, dusty and humid. The environment can be stressful at times with deadline pressure to complete multiple priorities. Working OT, weekends and holidays is required. Participation in off hour, weekend and holiday call rotation is mandatory.
