Laboratory Technician Job at Epic Brewing Company
Epic Brewing is looking for a Laboratory Technician to join the production facility team in Salt Lake City, UT. This position will include quality assurance and quality control responsibilities in multiple departments in the brewery including Laboratory, Cellars, and Packaging. A strong science background (microbiology, chemistry, biochemistry, etc.) with bench experience and confidence working aseptically is required. This position will work closely with and support the laboratory manager in projects such as microbiological testing, ABV analysis through gas chromatography, spectrophotometric determination of diacetyl levels, packaging quality assurance, calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment, and more. Additionally, the individual will assist the Cellar team with cask testing, sensory analysis, and various cellar tasks.
An individual with a great attention to detail, energy for repetitive laboratory and cellar work, clear communication skills, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work safely around hazardous chemicals would be a great fit for this position.
Job Duties Include:
- Media and reagent preparation
- Packaged product inspection and measurement of seams and dissolved oxygen levels
- Assist in sampling barrel aged beer – microbiological testing and sensory analysis
- Autoclave operation and maintenance
- Glassware and supply cleaning
- Aseptic collection and enrichment of samples from fermentation vessels, bright tanks, and packaged products
- Yeast cell counting and reporting
- Data collection, recording, organization, and reporting
- SOP utilization and improvement
- Maintain an orderly and safe work environment in department as well as entire facility
- Recording fermentation gravities, temperatures, and tank activities
- Understand and carry out proper yeast management and handling
- Dry hopping/adjunct addition
- Ability to complete physical work (bending, kneeling, pulling hoses, lifting 50+ lbs, etc)
- Work in adverse conditions (wet, cold, hot, loud, etc)
- Help other departments when needed – i.e. perform job duties that are not specified here
Skills/Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent degree (GED)
- Proficient in basic laboratory skills such as pipetting, microscopy, aseptic technique, plating, etc.
- Ability to operate and service laboratory equipment
- Good communication and teamwork while working in a group or individually
- Confidence and motivation to work individually
- Strong orientation towards quality control and safety
- Strong communication ability, both written and verbal
- Ability to work varying hours depending on production schedule
- Ability to work on feet for 8+ hours
Schedule:
- Full-time
- Afternoon Shift
- Monday-Friday (typically)
- Must be willing to have a flexible schedule to accommodate occasional weekend work, some holidays, and overtime
Pay:
$16-22/hr, dependent on experience
