DSHS ESA Child Support Enforcement Officer 3

The Tacoma Division of Child Support is currently seeking a permanent Support Enforcement Officer 3 position on a collection team. You will serve as a designated lead worker, providing direction and training to professional staff that collect, establish, and enforce child and medical support. As the department's representative, you will make critical casework decisions and determine child support obligations.

Here is some of what you will be doing

  • Train staff in all aspects of child support collections and enforcement
  • Review work and explain child support laws and procedures
  • Audit work and workflow to meet Federal and State guidelines
  • Make critical casework decisions such as initiating, preparing, signing, and serving administrative and legal support enforcement actions
  • Establish Administrative Child Support Orders by researching and locating income information
  • Analyze, interpret, and apply State, Tribal, Federal, and International laws pertaining to paternity determination
  • Maintain technical expertise amidst constant changes in laws, policies, and procedures in order to be a resource for the team
  • Negotiate debt repayment terms
  • Calculate complex financial and medical child support obligations and arrearages
  • Assist with developing and implementing training plans and performance management plans
  • Assist walk-in customers
  • Act on behalf of the supervisor in their absence
What we are looking for:
  • Knowledge of State statutes and Federal regulations, legal rights, and remedies in support enforcement
  • Ability to train, multi-task, prioritize workload, and be responsive to change
  • Knowledge of paternity proceeding, accounting and collection practices
  • Verbal and written communication skills that will support case management skills for a large, growing, and diverse caseload
  • Customer service skills
  • Ability to learn and navigate new programs
  • Ability to work independently and develop training plans for new and long term staff
  • Investigative and interview skills to find information from various sources
Who should apply?
Professionals who have 2 years of experience as a Washington State Support Enforcement Officer and one of the following:
  • 2 years of college-level coursework and 2 additional years of experience related to child support enforcement and/or debt collection
  • Or, BA degree
  • Or, an additional 4 years of full-time debt collection work experience
