POSITION SUMMARY
PADS Kitchen: Assistant to the Chef will assist the Chef with the day-to-day operations and needs for safe meal production of 100+ meals a day within a commercial kitchen within the PADS Homeless Shelter in McHenry. Meals will be based on the donated products and subsidized products from the local food pantry. The meals will be well balanced and nutritious. The individual will need to be flexible to complete all requirements of a commercial kitchen.

Essential Functions Statement(s)
· Assist the Chef with meal preparation, ordering, and provision of meals to all Guests while maintaining a high quality and nutrition level
· Assist in preparing, serving, and cleaning up all meals (Breakfast, lunch, and Sunday Meal Plan)
· Working with kitchen volunteer/staff with training and ensuring all "stations" (e.g., prep, pot washing, dishwasher, service, inventory, etc.) remain adequately set up and stocked before and during service periods, serving meals, inventory /storing support, and cleaning
· Assist with maintaining a safe and clean kitchen environment that meets all food safety standards of a commercial kitchen
· Assist the Chef in maintaining accurate daily meal counts and providing report details every month
· Provide supervision of kitchen staff and volunteers in the absence or day off of the Chef
· Ensure safe operation of the equipment
· Will attend all training and staff meetings as required by the Chef
· Will maintain all related certifications in good standings
· Needs to be able to work in the kitchen unsupervised on occasion
· Perform all other duties as assigned by the Chef

SKILLS& ABILITIES
Education: High School Diploma or GED
Culinary School Training "preferred", but not mandatory
Experience: Minimum of 1-3 years of experience as a cook in a commercial kitchen/food service
Languages: Excellent command of the English language. Bilingual (Spanish), as a plus.
ComputerSkills:
Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Outlook required.
HMIS, PowerPoint, Paycom, Relias preferred.
Certifications &Licenses:
Food Service Manager Certification
Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
Must be able to meet agency driver safety requirement of carrying personal vehicle insurance with the following limits:
$50,000 bodily injury, each person
$100,000 bodily injury, each accident
$50,000 property damage
