JOB SUMMARY:
The Lead Investigator is primarily responsible for conducting and facilitating incident investigations within their area of operations. They are also responsible for supporting the local HSE Specialist and District/Operations Manager in an effort to support H&P’s C.A.R.E initiatives beyond managing investigations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Uses independent judgment and discretion to manage all Investigations of SIF Potential in the assigned area of operations. This includes facilitating investigation meetings with HSE and Operations representatives, developing quality recommended corrective actions and managing corrective actions produced by the investigations until closure, ensuring that District employees are properly trained to conduct incident investigations and provide associated training as needed. This also includes working directly with the HSE Specialist –Tulsa, to ensure that investigations are proceeding in accordance with H&P’s guidelines.
- With limited support from local management, provide additional support to District Operations as needed in the absence of the HSE Specialist. This includes; Directing the work of HSE Field Reps, Creating and delivering presentations for both internal and external customers, delivering training as needed, supervising medical case management for employees who sustain a work-related injury and Assist with approving, managing all HSE event reports generated by District personnel and serve as a liaison with Worker Compensation representatives.
- Promotes the use of H&P’s core HSE Processes including but not limited to; C.O.A.C.H, Lifebelts, written safe work procedures, POMS and EHS reporting. Responsible for independently verifying use of these processes.
- Work directly with the HSE Specialist –Tulsa to review investigations, provide feedback on investigations and ensure that investigations are proceeding in accordance with H&P’s guidelines.
- Uses independent judgment and discretion as a representative for District management in SIF investigation reviews, Performance Reviews and other meetings with both internal and external customers.
- Uses independent judgment and discretion to respond to supporting requests from H&P’s legal department for documentation and feedback regarding incidents that have occurred in the District.
- Supports other business units by conducting SIF investigations when a local Lead Investigator is unavailable or as required by H&P’s policies.
- Serves as a liaison with regulatory officers during unannounced compliance inspections.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
- 5-7 Years of oilfield safety experience and/or drilling operations experience
- 1-3 Years of oilfield HSE investigation experience
- Advanced knowledge of H&P HSE practices, policies, and procedures
- Advanced knowledge of drilling rig equipment and operations
- Thorough knowledge of PC application skills, including presentations, spreadsheet, and word processing products
- Ability to lead a large group of individuals
- Ability to speak publicly to both small and large groups
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to complete TapRoot Advanced Root Cause Analysis Team Leader Certification
- Ability to operate a company vehicle per H&P’s policy
- Ability to plan and organize multiple processes concurrently
- H2S Certification (as needed)
- This level of knowledge is normally acquired through completion of a College Degree program or high school diploma and 5 to 7 years experience in drilling operations or equivalent combination of education, special certifications, and experience.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is normally performed indoors in an office setting. Outdoor site work is also expected to support investigations, incident response and operator requests where exposure to atmospheric conditions of extreme heat or cold, wind, rain, fumes, and gases are expected. Work assignment is generally Monday-Friday during core business hours. On-call duties are expected outside core business hours with occasional visits to work sites during incident response.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The worker is required to perform most work while sitting, standing and walking. Work normally requires finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination to operate computer keyboard at moderate skill level. Work may require occasional pushing, pulling, or carrying 20-pound objects such as files, documents, and miscellaneous equipment. Work involves sitting, standing and walking most of the time.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS/CONTACTS:
Internal – Frequent contact with District Leadership, HSE, Legal Representatives and Field personnel to conduct investigations, exchange information, monitor and guide performance, identify problems and develop solutions/corrective actions.
External – Frequent contact with Customers and 3rd parties in order to conduct investigations and review findings from investigations. As well as to develop and maintain operational relationships with H&P’s customers.
