Lead Public Safety Officer- Johnson Campus Job at Northern Vermont University - Johnson
To assist the Director of Public Safety in the day-to-day operations of the public safety functions on the campus.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
 1. Complete and publish weekly public incident log on NVU- website.
 2. Manage department incident reporting program. Add new employees and delete users when
 necessary.
 3. Develop and modify the department student work program and department policies in
 accordance with department needs and institutional objectives and resources.
 4. Act as Student Work Program Coordinator, supervising 12 to 15 student officers and
 switchboard operators including the hiring, and completing student employee assessments, reviews
 , and approval of timesheets.
 5. Oversee, coordinate, present, and/or participate in the planning and organizing of a variety of
 department educational and social programs and campus events.
 6. Create and maintain a comprehensive department training manual. 7. Develop and manage department information board for employees including listings of campus
 events and ensuring sufficient public safety coverage for events when appropriate.
 8. Compile, analyze and keep record of department data including incidents, escorts, and phone log
 information.
 9. Perform duties associated with those of a public safety officer including patrolling campus
 buildings and grounds; respond to complaints and medical emergencies.
 10. Assist area police with investigations on campus.
 11. Perform related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
 Associate's degree in a related field plus three to five years of experience in the areas of security, law
 enforcement or the like. Or a combination of education and experience from which comparable
 knowledge and skills are acquired.
- Ability to deal effectively with a wide range of individuals courteously, in some instances under
stressful, dangerous and/or emergency conditions. - Excellent communication skills.
 - Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and efficiently.
 - Ability to train and oversee the work of others.
 - Relevant first aid training, including CPR certification.
 - Physical ability to perform all job duties.
 - Valid Vermont Driver’s License
 
VSCSF Bargaining Unit Grade: 9 FLSA: Non-Exempt Full-time, 37.5hrs./wk.,
Shift: Monday-Friday, 6am-2pm, Must work holidays, some weekends, and occasional overtime
Primary work site: Johnson Campus
Starting Salary Range: $15.25 - $17.24/hour plus applicable shift differential
 Shift differential rates shall be:
 2nd shift $0.75 cents per hour
 3rd shift $1.00 per hour
 Weekend $0.75 cents per hour
