Learning Center Assistant (East End) Job at BAKERRIPLEY
As a member of the Economic Initiatives team, you will join an incredibly talented and hardworking Learning Center department dedicated to hands-on learning and technology training to advance BakerRipley’s impact in the Houston region.
Reporting to the Learning Center Manager, the Learning Center Assistant is responsible for supporting the operation of BakerRipley’s Learning Center and facilitating programs and services which meet the needs of students, teachers, and the community. The Learning Center Assistant will work alongside staff, interns, and volunteers in the Learning Center and manage their training on the use of the Center’s software, computers, and manufacturing equipment. This position is responsible for maintaining the center, operating makerspace equipment, completing administrative tasks and assisting visitors.
EXPECTED POSITIVE OUTCOMES
- Facilitate programs that so community members learn skills necessary to demonstrate competency with machinery and tools in the Innovation Lab.
- Establish an environment and protocols that increases access to technology.
- Lead programs that promote student independence in the space and increase interest towards STEM fields and topics.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Creating a welcoming, safe, and engaging environment
- Making yourself available to members for questions and assistance
- Train, lead, and coordinate volunteers and student employees.
- Develop and deliver programming for participants on a range of subjects and skills
- Assisting members with their projects and in safely using equipment
- Brainstorming project design ideas and suggestions
- Building community through member engagement
- Giving tours to new and potential members, teachers, students, and community members
- Keeping inventory and handling materials and consumables
- Maintaining a clean and organized shop
- Performing equipment repairs and preventative maintenance
- Possessing a working knowledge of tools and equipment
- Performing consulting, training and prototyping services when needed
- Learning, knowing, and enforcing Innovation Center rules and policies
- Completing daily shift checklists and end of shift reports
- Run and write reports for tracking and evaluating the Innovation Center services.
- Maintaining secured member project storage space
- Other duties as assigned
