CAELC’s Lecturer Position

The Center for American English Language and Culture (CAELC) at the University of Virginia seeks applications for a Lecturer in TESOL Writing. CAELC is a pan-university language support program tasked with supporting all international populations at UVA. Services include assessment, support classes, and consultation with the university community concerning language learners’ needs.

This is a three-year, tenure-ineligible appointment with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon available funding, satisfactory performance, and need for the position. Potential candidates will serve as CAELC’s resident writing expert. The candidate will be part of a professional team of English language educators and will provide more focused leadership in CAELC's English writing program as well as a consultant for multilingual writers pan-university.

Responsibilities during the academic year include teaching three English language support classes per semester, assisting with testing and placement at the beginning of each semester in early July and as needed throughout the year; assisting with development of assessment tools and curriculum; assisting with development and delivery of academic integrity skills workshops; and completing other administrative duties as assigned. The position also includes teaching in the 4.5-week summer English for Academic Purposes program.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must have a master's degree, PhD preferred, in a related field.

Three years in post-secondary education which includes work with English Language Learners in first-year composition classes.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience with teaching academic integrity skills to multilingual learners

Experience with designing and implementing writing assessments.
