The Pawtucket School Department is seeking a school librarian. Under the direction of the school administrator, the school librarian will implement the educational curriculum. EXEMPLARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and communicates these objectives to students and parentsPrepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisorMonitors and evaluates student outcomes. Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practicesMonitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials and facilitiesCommunicates and interacts with students, staff, parents and the communitySupervises students in a variety of school related settings Takes an active role in school improvement Benchmarks the SLP to school, state, and national program standards Participates in the curriculum development process at both the building and district level to ensure that the curricula includes the full range of literacy skills (information, media, visual, digital, and technological literacy) necessary to meet content standards and to develop lifelong learners Collaborates with teachers and students to design and teach engaging inquiry and learning experiences and assessments that incorporate multiple literacies and foster critical thinking Participates in the implementation of collaboratively planned learning experiences by providing group and individual instruction, assessing student progress, and evaluating activities Joins with teachers and others to plan and implement meaningful experiences that will promote a love of reading and lifelong learning Reading for understanding, for exposure to diversity of viewpoints and genres, and for pleasure Using information for defined and self-defined purposes Embraces the world of information and all its formats Constructively assesses their own learning and the work of their peers Creates an environment that is conducive to active and participatory learning, resource-based instructional practices Shares with the learning community collaboratively developed and up-to-date district policies concerning such issues as materials selection, circulation, reconsideration of materials, copyright, privacy, and acceptable use Encourages the use of instructional technology to engage students and to improve learning, providing 24/7 access to digital information resources for the entire learning community Collects and analyzes data to improve instruction and to demonstrate correlations between the SLP and student achievement Keeps current in professional practices and developments, information technologies, and educational research applicable to school library programs Advocates for school library programs and the guiding principles of the school library professionMaintains frequent and timely communication to stakeholders through the school and library website, parent newsletter, e-mail, and other formats, such as local cable access television, video/audio streaming, and on-demand video/podcastsIn accordance with district policy, develops and maintains a collection of resources appropriate to the curriculum, the learners, and the teaching styles and instructional strategies used within the school community Cooperates and networks with other libraries, librarians, and agencies to provide access to resources outside the school Evaluates, promotes, and uses existing and emerging technologies to support teaching and learningSupplements school resources, connect the school with the global learning community, communicate with students and teachers, and provide 24/7 access to library services Understands copyright, fair use, and licensing of intellectual property, and assists users with their understanding and observance of the same Organizes the collection for maximum and effective useIs Knowledgeable of and Skilled at: Instructional techniques Assessment techniques Differentiated instruction techniquesManaging classroom procedures and behaviorsOrganizes physical space to create a safe, accessible, and resource-rich environment Preparing and maintaining accurate recordsRTI (Response to intervention)PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Support)Cultural competencyConflict resolutionAbility is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groupsAble to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office, school based staff, students, parents and the communityWork with data of varied types and/or purposes; and utilize job-related equipment.Independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plansMeeting deadlines and schedules; working as part of a teamReflective practitioner; strives to maintain and improve professional competenceLicensure/ Certificate Requirements:Valid RI Librarian CertificateA Masters Degree from an accredited college or universityTHIS JOB SPECIFICATION SHOULD NOT BE CONSTRUED TO IMPLY THAT THESE REQUIREMENTS ARE THE EXCLUSIVE STANDARDS OF THE POSITION.
