Annual Salary Range:

Librarian I - $52,570 - $70,444

Librarian II - $58,028 - $77,757


This position is part of a flexible classification. Qualified candidates may be hired at either level based on their experience, education and training as determined by the hiring authority.

DESCRIPTION

This position will oversee Youth Services for the Tempe Public Library under the direction of the Library Manager.


Job duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist in the creation, development, coordination, implementation, of library public programs for youth that meet the defined needs of the community.
  • Educate library patrons, individually and in groups, in the use of electronic resources, including the library’s webpage, catalog, research databases and online downloadable resources.
  • Provide answers to reference and readers advisory questions in person, over the phone and through electronic forums.
  • Assist in the maintenance of web pages for Library web site and Library intranet site.
  • Respond to citizen complaints and requests.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Work Experience:

Librarian I

Some library experience is preferred.


Librarian II

Requires two (2) years of library experience, which may include specialty areas as required.

Candidates must have the minimum amount of work experience. Years of experience are based upon a full-time work schedule (2,080 hours per year). The sum of an applicant’s full-time and/or part-time qualifying work experience must meet or exceed the stated minimum qualification. Education will not substitute for the required work experience; however, related unpaid and/or volunteer work experience may be used as qualifying work experience.


Education:

Both levels

Requires a Master of Library Science degree from an American Library Association accredited college or university.


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Applicants considered for this job classification must pass the following:
