SUMMARY
This 3-level classification series involves work that requires a practical knowledge of library services, tools, methods, and procedures.
The Library Assistant 1 performs general office clerical work and, in addition, participates in limited portions of library functions. At the journey-level, the Library Assistant 2 carries out a full range of recurring activities involved in circulating, maintaining, and locating items in the library collection. The Library Assistant 3 performs work that regularly requires an in-depth, practical understanding of library activities and procedures.
Serve as employee-in-charge for a bookmobile. Immediate supervisor is not located on site.
In addition to performing the duties at the Library Assistant 1 and 2, regularly instruct lower classified employees in library processes and procedures and serve as a troubleshooter for their questions and issues.
Based on instructions from a cataloging Librarian, adapt or change bibliographic information in a database to meet specific library classification requirements.
Order and maintain the periodicals collection. Order library supplies.
Use multiple databases and manual files to locate material in a specialized collection held by the library.
Using complex reference materials, including electronic national database searches that require in-depth knowledge of search engines and terminology, locate, and receive in material for inter-library loan from outside the Oceanbooks Network. Suggest alternatives when loaned material is too fragile to loan or photocopying would obliterate significant details.
Employees hired into this position may serve as employee-in-charge for a bookmobile.
Responsible for stocking the bookmobile collection, tracking, and scheduling maintenance of the bookmobile. Facilitates the delivery of library materials and information to the various bookmobile stops on a predetermined schedule. Immediate supervisor is not located on site.
Assists library director with certain clerical duties.
Solve billing questions/concerns and prepare online vouchers for Treasurer’s Department to pay bills.
Plans and presents programming such as story time or other presentations to the public.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Knowledge: In-depth practical knowledge of the following: book classification, collection maintenance, cataloging, automated library systems, and bibliographic reference tools.
Skills: Skill in the use and minor maintenance of photocopiers and computer printers. Skill in the use of computers and related software.
Abilities: Able to communicate effectively orally. Able to courteously meet and deal with the public, co-workers, and staff at other libraries. Able to work independently and use initiative and judgment in carrying out responsibilities. Able to establish and maintain reports, records, and statistical data. Able to instruct lower classified employees in library processes and procedures and serve as a troubleshooter for non-routine questions and issues.
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
AA Degree in Library Science or a related field, and two years of Library Assistant experience involving the full range of routine circulation, cataloging, or ready research procedures, or a satisfactory combination of education and experience.
Must possess an Oregon Driver License and the ability to maintain an acceptable driving record.
Must pass a pre-employment criminal history background investigation.
SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES
None. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Librarian. Exercises autonomy within the scope of assigned duties.
Specific, detailed guidelines such as library procedure manuals and checklists, standard formats and forms, and computer operating instructions cover the important aspects of the work, but interpretations and deviations must be made for non-routine problems.

Tillamook County offers a generous benefits package to regular employees working 20 hours or more of the regularly scheduled work week.
Part-time regular employees working more than 20 hours but less than 40 hours will receive a pro-rated amount based on their regularly scheduled time.
Employees are eligible for insurance benefits the first day of the month following a full 30 days of employment.

- Holiday Pay - employees are eligible for 12 paid holidays, including a floating holiday, beginning on the first day of employment
- Sick Leave - employees begin to accrue at 8 hours a month upon hire and are eligible to use leave after 3 full months of employment
- Vacation - employees begin to accrue at 8.66 hours a month beginning on the first day of employment and are eligible to use vacation days 6 full months of employment
