Lincoln City Libraries currently has part-time (30 hours per week) Library Service Associate positions available. Library Service Associates are front-line staff, providing excellent direct customer service to the public. Tasks include assisting with the checkout of materials, issuing library cards, providing technology assistance, recommending materials to customers, promoting library programs and online resources, assisting with the access and use of library resources, and processing payments on customer accounts.

Work schedule will vary and will include day, evening, and weekend hours at location as assigned. All positions are assigned to a primary branch or service unit - service units consist of a large branch library and a smaller branch library, and staff may be assigned to work at both locations in a day.

  • Eiseley Branch Library (1530 Superior Street, Lincoln, NE 68521) and Williams Branch Library (5000 Mike Scholl Street, Lincoln, NE 68524)
  • Gere Branch Library (2400 S 56th Street, Lincoln, NE 68506) and South Branch Library (2675 South Street, Lincoln, NE 68502)
  • Walt Branch Library (6701 S 14th Street, Lincoln, NE 68512)

NOTE: The list created from this recruitment may be used for future openings with a similar number of hours.

Nature of Work/Examples of Work Performed

Responsible paraprofessional library work providing public service requiring some knowledge of library practices and procedures.

Performs full range of circulation tasks and references/readers' advisory services.

Involves heavy public contact.

Desirable Knowledge, Abilities & Skills/Desirable Training & Experience

Bilingual language skills are desired.


Minimum Qualifications/Necessary Special Requirements

Qualifications: High school graduate or equivalent and six months of experience in providing customer service to the public; or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the desirable knowledge, abilities and skills.


To be eligible for insurance benefits, employees must work at least 30 hours per week.

To be eligible for the retirement plan, employees must work at least 20 hours per week.

Temporary, seasonal, and unclassified employees are not eligible for benefits.
