Library Technician Job at Zimmerman Associates, Inc.
Zimmerman Associates, Inc. (ZAI) is currently seeking to hire a Library Technician to support sorting, receiving, and processing of library collections in any of the foreign languages noted below for government contract work it is pursuing in Washington, D.C. The qualified candidate will be responsible for providing the following support and services:
- Accessioning serials for binding:
- creating or updating item and summary holdings records
- checking-in serials
- performing duplicate checking
- recording added copies
- identifying missing issues in the library’s bibliographic database
- Accessioning serials not for binding
- IBCR creation
- Using cataloging standards, create Initial Bibliographic Control Records (IBCR) when no other bibliographic record is available according to the established workflow.
- Vendor record updates
- In the ILS (Voyager or FOLIO), perform database maintenance on bibliographic records that are provided by the vendor or from other external sources, including making modifications, updates, and corrections according to the established workflow.
One of two of the following foreign languages required: Persian, Arabic, Hebrew, Russian, Armenian, Georgian, Mongolian, Japanese, Korean, or Chinese, Russian, Polish, Hungarian, Greek, Romanian, or Servian
Qualifications include:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Experience using Voyager Integrated Library System (ILS)
- Previous library experience required
- General Microsoft Suite knowledge
- Careful attention to detail
- Ability to work efficiently and independently with a high degree of accuracy
- Ability to lift, push/pull, hold materials up to 40 lbs.
- One year of experience working within cultural institutions such as archives, libraries, or universities.
- One year of experience working in similar positions supporting collections or archival materials processing.
- Division-specific foreign language skills adequate for reading and analyzing library materials such as monographs and serials
