The Licensed Practical Nurse, Float NHU works Regular Full-Time Days (7am-3:30pm) 5 days/week OR (7am-5:30pm) 4 days/week and under the direction of the registered nurse, provides nursing care in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures, supporting the care plan established for each resident.
Essential Functions:
- The Licensed Practical Nurse transfers, moves and repositions clients every 2-3 hours and prn.
- The Licensed Practical Nurse assists clients to move to activities area or dining area, etc. and keeps unit neat, relaxed and homelike.
- The Licensed Practical Nurse assists with admissions, transfers and discharges.
- The Licensed Practical Nurse assists/provides residents with PROM and AROM, and ambulation goals as appropriate.
- The Licensed Practical Nurse provides treatments/medications as ordered.
- The Licensed Practical Nurse operates all equipment and performs all procedures/care in a safe manner.
- Demonstrates proper body mechanics in all functions.
- The Licensed Practical Nurse maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure.
- Notifies appropriate persons/family members of significant events (in conjunction with RN).
- Demonstrates ability to accept constructive criticism and uses it to improve work performance.
- The Licensed Practical Nurse completes work assignments on time/readily accepts assignments as observed by RN.
- The Licensed Practical Nurse monitors performance of CNA's and relays concerns to the RN for follow up.
- The Licensed Practical Nurse attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job related hazards.
- Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team to facilitate the department's/unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives.
Education:
- Completion of an LPN program
Experience:
- Previous long term care experience preferred
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to communicate effectively and document information accurately.
- Ability to deal efficiently and effectively with a wide variety of individuals.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Ability to move or lift residents and equipment
Physical Requirements:
- Stand/walk 6-8 hrs, sit 1-3 hrs, bend, squat, reach, lift, carry, push, pull 1/3 or more of the time.
- Weight lifted/force exerted up to 35 pounds.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Current NYS license to practice as an LPN. CPR Certification required.
