SUMMARY:
Responsible for planning, coordinating, and conducting day to day activities tailored to meet the needs of individual residents for the residential care units. Such activities must promote social, recreational spiritual and physical well-being of residents. Actively builds rapport with individual residents and staff and works to create enthusiasm and participation in group and individual activities. Carries out job duties in a manner that supports Hill View’s mission and purpose and creates an atmosphere of enthusiasm about activities being offered.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
Plans, schedules, and implements indoor and outdoor programs of individual and group activities for residents, based on resident’s daily schedules and reflecting monthly themes and/or holidays. Develops and implements strategies in planning and carrying out activities that will create an atmosphere of anticipation and enthusiasm about activities among residents and staff.
Maintains knowledge of and implements activities systems that ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations for Residential Care.

Develops, implements, and posts a monthly calendar of activity events, which include in-house programs and off-site outings for residents. This calendar should be visually appealing and include enough information to encourage participation of residents in scheduled activities. Each month's calendar should be prepared and submitted to the Assistant Administrator for review/approval by the Monday of the third week of each month.

Obtains materials and conducts activities tailored to the needs of individual resident’s social, spiritual and physical well-being while working creatively and efficiently within budget limits. Regularly plans and implements a variety of new and different exciting activities for individuals and small groups. Uses resources provided to develop ideas and implement new activities. Incorporates at least two new activities per month into the planning calendar. Solicits feedback from residents and staff to determine what types of activities are most appealing to small groups and individuals.

Plans activities and uses materials to create enthusiasm about upcoming holidays/seasons and special events.

Plans and implements some type of interaction or creative tool every day to encourage resident participation in activities.
Recruits, trains, schedules, and manages an adequate number of volunteers to meet the needs of the activity programs. Supervises volunteers, to assure they are comfortable with assigned activities and that they are interacting with residents appropriately. Maintains records volunteer applications, orientation, and hours worked, and submits these to the Administrative Assistant on a monthly basis.

Identifies residents who need in-room activities. Works with the resident and/or their family member to develop a plan for activities that will be appealing and exciting to the resident. Implements room visits and in-room activities for residents unable to leave their rooms. Includes activities of these residents on daily activities report.
Conducts resident activity preference surveys on all new residents within 7 days of admission and submits copies of the survey to the Administrator at that time. Repeats resident activity preference surveys at least once annually to determine if current activities meet their needs. Adjusts individual and group activity plans to reflect resident preferences when planning calendars.
Interacts and communicates effectively with the Assistant Administrator and charge nurses about resident’s interests and response to activities. Actively works to build rapport with staff and to solicit support and promotion of activities from Assisted Living staff.

Carries out job duties in an organized, efficient manner that assures active interaction with individual residents, groups and employees on a daily basis. Carries out job duties without the need for frequent prompting from supervisor.

Maintains a daily record of activities in both Assisted Living areas, which includes description of activities and participation of residents. Provides a copy of these records to the Assistant Administrator daily.

Communicates with family members and staff about residents who are reluctant or unwilling to participate in activities, to identify individual activities that may be appealing to the resident and to
develop strategies for encouraging the resident's participation.

Maintains Activity department work areas in an organized, clean and sanitary manner, observing infection control procedures.

Participates and records minutes of monthly Town Meeting in Assisted Living.

Monitors residents under his/her supervision to assure their safety and wellness. Immediately reports resident's medical, emotional and physical concerns to the charge nurse and Director of Nursing.

Assist in supporting other departments, as needed, to benefit the resident and family.
