The LINC Peer Specialist provides peer support services; serves as a consumer advocate; provides consumer information and peer support for consumers in outpatient or residential settings. The CPS performs a wide range of tasks to assist consumers in regaining control over their own lives and over their own recovery process. The CPS will role model competency in recovery and ongoing coping skills. Certified Peer Counselor preferred but not required but need to have lived experience with Mental Health, Substance use/abuse, and/or history of criminal justice involvement.


LINC Program Summary:


The Legal Intervention and Network of Care (LINC) program is operated by Community House Mental Health Agency providing transitional intensive behavioral health services in lieu of prosecution for persons who are charged with misdemeanors and low-level felonies who are at risk of orders for legal competency services due to their mental health and substance use conditions. Prosecutors agree to dismiss cases for people to engage with LINC for 6-12 months. LINC is a harm reduction-based program and offers 24 hour staffed respite and daytime staffed transitional beds, case management, legal coordination, and mental health day treatment.


Essential Job Duties:


1. Always Maintain client and staff confidentiality.

2. Have legible handwriting.

3. Be able to do simple mathematics.

4. Be able to read and comprehend agency/client charts.


Specific Duties Required of LINC Peer Specialist:


Upon client requests:


  • Assist consumers in articulating personal goals for recovery.
  • b) Assist consumer in determining the objectives the consumer needs to take to reach his or her recovery goals.

Upon request the peer specialist will assist clients in coordinating their treatment planning with their case manager by:


  • a) Assisting consumers in determining issues.
  • b) Assisting consumers in identifying recovery goals.
  • c) Assisting consumers in setting objectives.
  • d) Determining interventions based on consumers recovery/life goals.
  • e) Observing progress consumers make toward meeting objectives.
  • f) Understanding and utilizing specific interventions necessary to assist consumers in meeting their recovery goals.

Utilizing the peer specialist specific training the CPS will:


  • a) Assist consumers in setting up and sustaining self-help (mutual support) groups.
  • b) Assist consumers in creating a Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP).
  • c) Utilize and teach problem solving techniques with individuals and groups.
  • d) Teach consumers how to identify and combat negative self-talk.
  • e) Teach consumers how to identify and overcome fears.
  • f) Support the vocational choices consumers make and assist them in overcoming job related anxiety.
  • g) Assist consumers in building social skills in the community that will enhance job acquisition and tenure. h) Assist non-consumer staff in identifying program environments that are conducive to recovery; lend their unique insight into mental illness and what makes recovery possible.
  • i) Attend treatment team meetings to promote consumer use of self-directed recovery tools.

Utilizing their unique recovery experience, the peer specialist will:


  • a) Teach and role model the value of every individual’s recovery experience.
  • b) Assist the consumer in obtaining decent and affordable housing of his or her choice in the most integrated, independent, and least intrusive or restrictive environment.
  • c) Model effective coping techniques and self-help strategies.

Maintain a working knowledge of current trends and developments in the mental health field by reading books, journals and other relevant material.


  • a) Continue to develop and share recovery-oriented material with other peer specialists at the continuing education assemblies and on the peer specialist electronic bulletin board.
  • b) Attend continuing education assemblies when offered.
  • c) Attend relevant seminars, meetings, and in-service training whenever offered.

Serve as a recovery agent by:


  • a) Providing and advocating for effective recovery-based services.
  • b) Assist consumers in obtaining services that suit that individual’s recovery needs.
  • c) Inform consumers about community and natural supports and how to utilize these in the recovery process.
  • d) Assist consumers in developing empowerment skill through self-advocacy and stigma-busting.

Perform assigned duties which include but are not limited to:


  • a) Chart relevant daily interaction with clients within the peer support day program and/or support groups which provide support and assess their progress.

Attend scheduled staff meetings and community meetings when on duty and/or as assigned.

Job Requirements:


1.. Current home phone/address.

2.. Valid driver’s license and clean driving record in order to use agency vehicles.

3.. Agree to permit Criminal Conviction Inquiry.

4.. Be free of substance abuse.

  • A working knowledge and adherence to all agency policies and procedures.


Minimum Qualifications:


  • Completion and graduation from the Washington State Peer Counselor training preferred but not required.
  • Experience with target population or ability to acquire specialized training to work with target population.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Lived experience with either Mental Health, substance use/abuse, and/or history of criminal justice involvement required.

We strive to provide a comprehensive and valuable package of benefits to our employees. Full-time employment is defined as regularly scheduled 30 hours per week employment. Employees below 30 hours per week have benefits pro-rated to 50% down to 20 hours per week. Below 20 hours per week are not eligible for medical, dental benefits but can accrue vacation time per City of Seattle regulations.
