Minnesota Lung Center/Minnesota Sleep Institute is an independent practice with 9 physicians, 6 advanced practice providers, registered nurses, and respiratory therapists.? We have multiple locations and seek to have an LPN to join our team located at our Medical Record Office_ in Edina_.

MONDAY - FRIDAY
NO WEEKENDS OR HOLIDAYS!

This is a full-time position located at our Medical Records Office at Pentagon Park in Edina.
Our providers specialize in pulmonary and sleep disorders. We have a high volume of patients who receive controlled substance prescriptions on a routine basis, therefore giving us the opportunity to have a dedicated individual in this role.
We are looking for a detail oriented, problem solving, and critical thinking LPN to become the primary person to arrange for Schedule II prescriptions to be sent to pharmacy by the prescriber. Essentially, this role is for preparing refills of prescriptions for the provider to sign.
Additionally, this nurse will be involved in communications with our patients outside of the realm of controlled substances. This includes making and receiving calls to patients, phone triage, relaying and obtaining results, and other prescription refills.

Controlled Substance_ Duties_

  • Go through a list of patients that are on controlled substances, reviewing the chart, notes, and any other related correspondence, to set up and pend prescriptions to be signed by the prescriber each month.
  • Work with patients, pharmacies, insurance companies, providers, and other staff to ensure that the patient’s needs are addressed appropriately.
  • Review medical charts to ensure prescriptions are accurate, complete, and appropriate to fill.
  • Communicate any concerns that may arise regarding patient’s use of controlled substances with prescriber.
  • Address incoming calls in a timely and professional manner.
  • Address tasks and refill requests through the electronic health record system in a timely manner.
  • Assist and/or prepare prior authorizations for CII’s.
  • Ensure proper forms are prepared and collected for signature by provider, if needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Phone/Call Communications_ Duties_

  • Address calls, tasks, faxes, refills, results and/or other correspondences as appropriate using critical thinking and good nursing judgement.
  • Assist with scheduling appointments, if needed, and/or coordinate with reception staff.
  • Review the plan of care, consult with provider/management as needed.
  • Utilize nurse policy/procedures to address needs in a timely and standardized way.
  • Retrieve pertinent information for appointments as requested by interdisciplinary staff

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Currently licensed to practice in Minnesota as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
