LTE Fisheries Technician (Antigo) Job at State of Wisconsin

The Wisconsin DNR is hiring three LTE – Fisheries Technicians located in Antigo, Wisconsin.
Position Summary
These positions will assist the Wausau Work Unit's Fisheries Management staff. This position will be based out of the Antigo Service Center and is under guidance of the fisheries biologist, technicians, and the Wausau supervisor. Work will be primarily located in Lincoln and Langlade Counties. Some travel to the other work unit stations or work sites may be required (State vehicle provided, or reimbursement provided for personal vehicle use). Some evening and weekend work will be required. Activities would mainly include construction of a variety of trout habitat development structures. Other work activities would include fish survey and data collection and some equipment maintenance.
70% - Implementation of fisheries habitat development projects. Perform streambank or habitat improvement projects or independently develop projects including determining location of bank covers, brush bundles, riprap, fish cribs and other material. Build and install stream habitat improvement structures and conduct finish work such as hand seeding, mulching and grading streambanks.
25% - Assist fisheries biologists and technicians with fisheries surveys as requested. Determine the appropriate areas to deploy gear, operates and retrieves gear and is responsible for collection of appropriate biological data. Independently construct and/or maintain equipment, make preliminary investigations and report to biologist, assist other fisheries biologists in the team.
5% - General Fisheries shop maintenance and office duties in support of the Fisheries Management program including completing truck books, timesheets, purchasing requests and expense vouchers, and other duties as assigned.

This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position. LTE positions do not automatically lead to permanent state employment or enjoy the same benefits as permanent employees; however, these positions do offer valuable work experience and an opportunity to learn more about career opportunities with the Department of Natural Resources and the State of Wisconsin.
LTE employees are limited to working 1039 hours per position within a twelve-month period.

Qualifications
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work independently, be self-motivated, and punctual
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a small team
- Willing to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions
- Valid Driver's License and at least 18 years of age; requires operation of trucks and light equipment
- Ability to travel to DNR stations within the work unit (Wisconsin Rapids, Wausau, and Antigo) to assist as needed (State vehicle provided, or reimbursement provided for personal vehicle use)
- Must be able to accommodate flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekends
- Degree or coursework in Fisheries, Aquatic/Biological Science or related field
