Coperion is looking for a Machinist to join our team in Salina, KS. As a Machinist you will be responsible for following procedures and operating sequences. You may set-up, adjust and operate machine, utilize cutting tools to machine pieces according to requirements on drawings, specifications, and verbal instruction. Check the work with precision measuring instruments to ensure accuracy and quality.

What you’ll do:

  • Set up and operate engine lathes, Bridgeport style mills, drill presses, assorted hand and power tools
  • Set-up and operate CNC lathe and mill equipment
  • Modify and edit programs as needed.
  • Work from drawings and or verbal instructions, follow set-up procedures and operating sequences
  • Selects tooling, attachments, spindle speeds, tool feed rates, work piece securing methods, supports etc.
  • Position, align, and secure work pieces on the bed of the machine
  • Clamp and support work securely by using care to avoid distortion that may affect finished dimension
  • Secure work piece between centers or on face plates of turning machines
  • Secure work piece with the proper fixture for milling operations
  • May set tooling in holders and calibrate tool heads to orient tools and work piece to reference point for operations using care to select proper settings to assure travel clearances and avoid tool deflection affecting dimensions and finishes.
  • Adjust machine during operation for rate and amount of cut to obtain required finish and dimensional specifications.
  • May grind or prescribe grind for special and standard tooling to compensate for material variations and cutting conditions.

Basic Requirements:

  • High School Diploma required. Technical School preferred.

Great to Haves:

  • Specific knowledge of machining technology, mechanical principles, shop mathematics, precision measuring, procedures, operating methods, tooling types and application and machining characteristics of materials normally acquired in one year of experience.
  • Must have the ability to work with general supervision
  • Must read and write in English.
  • Must be able to read blueprints
  • Must have mechanical ability to use machining equipment and measuring instruments
