Job Impulse, Inc. has an immediate opening for a Maintenance Mechanic in Charleston.

Responsibilities of a Maintenance Mechanic includes:

This position will lead a collaborative effort to ensure effective mechanical maintenance deliverables and sustained reliability of Ridgeville plant equipment, process, and assets. You will lead a team of mechanical supervisors and technicians through safe and effective maintenance practices and standards; provide technical and strategic expertise in support of a preventive maintenance strategy to ensure business goals and objectives are obtained. You will work closely with both Maintenance and Operations personnel in your role and be responsible for equipment failure analysis, equipment critical spare part assessments and identify equipment improvement opportunities. This position reports to the Maintenance Manager and works closely with both Production, Technical and Engineering departments.

Job Requirements

You are a team player that requires minimal supervision. You can lead and influence others and collaborate with people of various backgrounds and experiences to achieve common goals. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be proactively focused to ensure intermediate and long-term maintenance strategies are in place for plant equipment. Therefore, you need to have an expanded knowledge and experience of safe maintenance practices in a heavy industrial environment.

Education, Skills, and Experience

  • Bachelor of Engineering degree from an ABET certified institution.
  • 5 years’ experience in a leadership role of performing mechanical maintenance in a heavy industrial environment.
  • Experienced in troubleshooting complex hydraulic and rotating equipment.
  • Work experience in applying preventative and predictive maintenance practices.
  • Knowledgeable of OSHA rules and regulations.
  • People orientated and experience in leading and supervising maintenance teams
  • Strong desire to continuously improve team performance and practices.
  • Proficient computer skills and be proficient in Microsoft office products.
  • Capable of functioning effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong verbal & written communication skills, & excellent presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in a CMMS such as SAP or equivalent is essential.
  • Previous work experience in root cause failure mode analysis is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge reliability tools such as FMEA (Failure Modes Effect Analysis) and Root Cause Analysis tools will be an advantage
  • Experience in thermography, oil analysis, ultrasonic analysis, vibration analysis, and motor analysis and associated performance trending programs.
  • Experience with Six Sigma methodology will be an advantage.
  • Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with Production, Engineering and Technology to ensure the reliability and optimization of the production processes.
  • Review and optimize Preventative Maintenance plans and schedules to improve equipment reliability with available maintenance resources
  • Coordinate with external companies for maintenance support and subject matter expertise to meet maintenance deliverables for equipment.
  • Lead and participate in preventive and corrective planned activities.
  • Prioritize maintenance activities and assist Maintenance Supervisors to give efficient and immediate response to the breakdowns, avoiding risk and negative impact on production.
  • Determine compliance standards and safety in maintenance practices.
  • Manage maintenance expenditure in area of influence for compliance with maintenance budget goals.
  • Interact with maintenance team to identify safety risks in the workplace, and preventive and protective measures to be taken.
  • Review training requirements and deficiencies for all mechanical maintenance personnel to ensure safe and correct performance.
  • Promote and participate in the development of work procedures
  • Investigate all incidents and accidents that occurred in your work area in accordance with the established procedure and apply preventive measures.
  • Analyze and publish Reliability Performance Indicators for each of five (5) production area in the facility.
  • Participate in Root Cause Investigations for equipment failures and determine Failure Modes and identify countermeasures to resolve causes of failures.
  • Develop new methods and procedures to reduce repair time for equipment downtime and duration and effectiveness of area shutdowns.
  • Perform equipment spare part analysis and optimum spare part philosophy to support maintenance strategy.
  • Works with Project Engineering to ensure the reliability and maintainability of new and modified installations. This includes standardization, sizing, and integration of diagnostic tools in the design specifications.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Climb stairs and vertical ladders
  • Bend at the waist, kneel, and/or crouch for extended periods of time.
  • Good depth perception and hand/eye coordination to accommodate working with equipment at a distance.
  • Good hand/finger dexterity.
  • Lift, push, and/or pull a maximum of 50 pounds.
  • Work in hot/humid, cold/adverse, semi-dusty to dusty, wet/damp environments for extended periods of time.
  • Work in moderate to high-level noise & vibration settings for extended periods.
  • Work around chemicals, pitches, solvents, oils, or other raw materials, & fumes.
  • Work safely from various heights above floor level.
  • Work around a variety of mobile and moving equipment safely.
  • Work in confined space safely and accurately.
  • Operate various mobile equipment and overhead cranes safely and accurately
