Maintenance Worker Job at SEQUATCHIE VALLEY EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Sequatchie Valley Head Start is a premier early childhood program serving low-income and at-risk children (birth to age 5) and their families by providing comprehensive services to meet their emotional, social, health, nutritional, and psychological needs.
We are seeking a maintenance worker to perform maintenance work in multiple agency facilities in our 5-county service area which includes Marion, Sequatchie, Grundy, Bledsoe and Rhea counties.
Examples of specific duties include:
- Inspection of facilities to ensure a safe environment
- Maintenance of playground surfacing, to include mowing and weed removal either with or without additional contract assistance
- Maintain and install adequate fencing to play areas to separate play areas from traffic and other dangers
- Complete quarterly HVAC coil cleaning and filter changes on HVAC units, troubleshoot heating and cooling system issues, and/or ensure contractors complete such maintenance
- Ensure all lighting is in working order to include emergency lighting
- Ensure that exit door mechanisms work easily and open outward; repair and/or replace any doors, door knobs, and locks
- Repair and/or replace p-traps, flush valves and other minor plumbing components; install, repair, and/or replace copper or PVC pipes, valves, or other plumbing fixtures; unstop sewer lines
- Patch and repair sheetrock
- Perform routine service maintenance activities such as changing filters, cleaning filters, cleaning gutters, caulking windows and doorways, stripping and waxing floors, etc.
- Keep all vehicles, tools, and equipment in good operating order; perform minor vehicle repair work
- Obtain estimates/bids for supplies, repairs, parts, etc.; order parts as necessary
Education and experience
- High school diploma or GED required
- Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, Google and other computer programs as needed
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs
- Must have physical stamina to complete physically demanding work in hot or cold weather conditions
- Must be able to work in confined awkward spaces and climb ladders
- Must be able to operate power tools
