Within the Department of Commerce, the Division of Workforce Solution’s mission is to help people find jobs and achieve their career goals as well as help employers find and retain a qualified workforce.
The Business Services Unit provides state-level support for employers, workforce development boards, and economic and workforce development partners; creates state strategy and policy for the purpose of coordinating, promoting, connecting and providing access for employers to federal programs such as the Work Opportunity Tax Credit Program, On the Job Training Grants, apprenticeships, federal bonding, Agriculture and Foreign Labor Services, Veteran services, layoff aversion, and dislocated worker resources. The Unit works hand-in-hand with economic development, local workforce boards, and education partners to ensure employer recruitment, retention, and expansion efforts are coordinated to ensure employers a seamless process.
This position spearheads all the statewide major workforce project initiatives and oversees the complex coordination of all major economic and workforce development project planning and implementation, to include high-level communication with and coordination of business decision makers, local workforce leaders, Community Colleges, Economic Developers, and partner agencies to support the overall workforce goals. This position requires the specialized knowledge and skillsets of an economic developer and its processes and procedures, as well as knowledge of workforce development and its mission, goals, and federal laws and regulations, to lead in this scope of work as the state workforce agency’s subject matter expert.
The Major Projects Coordinator will lead and assist a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team focused on strategy, planning, program alignment, and evaluation and outcomes with a special focus on workforce programs and services. Additionally, this position schedules and helps manage project workgroups with interagency and private sector partners while coordinating implementation of talent recruitment, assessment, and training strategies. This position also develops strategies to grow awareness and inspire participation in NCWorks system.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:
- Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of economic development or workforce development
- Ability to create and implement administrative procedures and develop and track workflow procedures
- Ability to analyze, interpret, and evaluate complex data and information and conflicting opinions from multiple sources and make recommendations for solutions and actions in written strategy plans
- Ability to read, interpret, and establish policies and procedures
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external staff and partner agencies, officials and business leaders
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including making presentations and writing reports
- Ability to analyze and interpret data related to employment economic conditions
- Comprehensive knowledge of project management principles, product and service development and delivery, operations management and functions within a business and industry setting
- Three or more years of progressively responsible work experience in the coordination of projects and programs in economic development, business assistance, public facility or infrastructure development, public and/or private finance, or workforce development
Bachelor s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of experience in the program related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
