Male Monitoring Technician Job at State of Texas - County of Lubbock
Responsible for the collection, security, and shipment of specimens (including but not limited to hair, urine, or saliva) to be tested to determine the presence of alcohol and controlled substances, and associated documentation of actions taken. Attempts to locate absconded offenders. Monitor the building and grounds of the department to ensure departmental/county property is safeguarded, as well as the safety of staff/visitors. This is an unarmed position.
- Responsible for the collection of urine, hair, saliva, or other specimens and handles the specimens in accordance with all legal, evidentiary, chain of custody, and laboratory procedures.
- Prepares specimens and associated documents for shipping to the laboratory.
- Handles and disposes of specimens according to policy and guidelines.
- Accurately documents actions in the appropriate case file.
- Monitors the building and grounds of the department to ensure the safety of staff and visitors by conducting periodic walkthroughs of the department/grounds during and after normal business hours including some weekends.
- Notifies local law enforcement officials of incidents within the department/grounds, including those involving offenders who may become out of control or may be under the influence of alcohol. (Observe, monitor, and notify)
- Conducts periodic building checks as required at the main entrance of the department on visitors by making visual checks of articles carried into the department such as handbags/backpacks, or utilizing the handheld security metal detector as an assisted tool.
- Maintain an absconder caseload and attempts to locate absconders, which may include field visits to residences.
- Identifies and reports any safety hazards, security breaches, and any areas of the building/grounds needing maintenance attention.
- Coordinate maintenance of department vehicles with the county.
- Performs any other duties as assigned by superiors.
- Follows CJAD and Departmental policies.
QUALIFCATION REQUIREMENTS: Must have a high school diploma or GED with some college preferred. Must understand and practice Universal Precautions for Prevention of Infectious Diseases. Possess skills to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Must have interpersonal skills necessary to deal with offenders, the public, coworkers, court personnel, and personnel of other departments. Have the ability to operate a personal computer. Must have the ability to work independently and efficiently. Possess a valid Texas driver’s license and liability automobile insurance pursuant to Texas motor vehicle laws. Must possess the ability to control emergency situations. Must have a telephone number at which they can be reached and access to reliable transportation. A criminal history will be conducted.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Maintain the ability to stand, walk up and down stairs, reach, grip, use fine dexterity, push and pull objects, kneel, and bend during the shift. Occasionally flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees. The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects weighing up to 20 pounds, such as books and stacks of records, and occasionally must lift and/or move objects weighing 100 pounds or more. Occasionally rotate upper trunk to the left or right while sitting or standing; place arms above, at or below shoulder height. Use of vision and depth perception is required to include color vision. The employee may be occasionally called upon to perform acts of intense physical exertion during emergency situations. Required to work closely with others; irregular working hours; exposure to body fluids; may be exposed to armed/dangerous persons and communicable diseases. The work environment is typically indoors, in an office setting, with a moderate noise level.
