Build out data operations and machine learning operations team within an established data management practice that applies a modern approach on data management and utilizes modern technologies.

Lead and manage the Data and Machine Learning Operations Engineering team and oversee the operation and administration of the organizations data technologies, processes, and pipelines. Help to develop a long-term strategy for data technologies.

Utilize strong problem solving and analytic skills to lead a team working primarily in an Agile environment.

What you do

  • Demonstrate leadership and expertise in modern data and machine learning operations.
  • Lead and mentor a team of data operation engineers to provide standard-driven, reliable, and scalable data services at enterprise level while also providing customer focused project support. Lead and oversee the daily work execution of the department.
  • Build cross-functional team partnerships and alliances with IT teams, Data Governance, Security, Project Managers and Business Partners.
  • Show proficiency in the development, ratification, and implementation of standard operating procedures (SOP).
  • Communicate technical concepts and solutions at a level appropriate for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Provide thought leadership on operational excellence, technology road mapping, and service execution.
  • Identify, define, and assess the properties, specifications, and best practices necessary for data engineering and data science workflow automation to meet current and future needs.
  • Help to develop and implement policies and procedures related to data security and integrity.
  • Ensure project and department milestones and goals are met on time and within budget.
  • Manage relevant software licenses and vendor relationships.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to project teams and cross-functional IT teams.
  • Maintain knowledge of trends, developments, and best practices in Data and Machine Learning Operations and related methodologies and technologies.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, and onboard new staff in the department. Provide constructive and timely performance evaluations. Handle discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What you bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or related field required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five or more years of related experience required in the following combination of areas:
  • Data management workflows and SDLC processes
  • Data management technology stacks, including ETL, Data Warehousing, Data Visualization, Data Science, Data Governance, MDM etc.
  • Technical skills including advanced knowledge of command-line scripting, database languages such as T-SQL or PL/SQL, data engineering with open-source languages such as Python, and general familiarity with cloud-based data processing services on Azure or AWS
  • Excellent Agile Kanban methodology skills for service delivery
  • One year or more of previous supervisory or management experience desired
  • Experience with Master Data Management (MDM) is desired
  • Familiarity with Snowflake, Tableau, PowerBI, IBM Cognos, Dataiku and Collibra are desired
  • Data Operations related certifications are desired
  • Agile SCRUM master certification is desired
