The Marketing & Communications Specialist supports the Assistant Director/Director of Marketing & Communications in the development and implementation of marketing and communication strategies to both internal and external audiences. This position handles the day-to-day maintenance and production of electronic and print vehicles, assists with writing articles for internal publications, writes content and coordinates design of marketing collateral, creates PowerPoints and other visual presentations, manages the internal newsletter and organization email account, as well as various electronic/social media platform. This position will identify, implement new and innovative strategies to increase engagement of targeted audiences both internally and externally in the
community.

Essential Functions:

  • Support new programs, services, and events (workshops, campaigns, programmatic activities).
  • May serve as a media representative/escort as needed.
  • Plans, writes, edits, and manages production of collateral to communicate effectively with Medical Center publics.
  • Provides on-call coverage on a rotating basis.
  • Designs flyers and posters to support JHBMC departments and executive communications (training available).
  • Serves on committees for overall Medical Center projects, and broader institutional projects.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in Business, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Advertising, Health Administration, or related field required.
  • This position requires a degree or equivalent work experience in marketing, advertising, public relations, journalism, graphic design, business administration or directly equivalent bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in marketing, advertising, public relations, or communications required.
  • Experience within a health care environment preferred.
  • Background in communications, public relations, advertising and/or marketing.
  • Familiar with media tracking services and databases is a plus.
  • Experience in an agency or health care environment is preferred. Knowledge of social media is plus.
  • Demonstrates ability to manage, develop, plan, and deliver projects with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills required.
  • Advanced presentation and writing skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills including the ability to develop working relationships and effectively communicate with all levels throughout the organization.
  • Ability to perform well in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for analysis and presentation purposes.
  • Ability to work independently, meet aggressive time frames and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong writing skills, InDesign Creative Suite (training available).
