We are in search of a marketing assistant to support our senior staff in accomplishing our marketing objectives. An excellent fit for this position is a team player who is a dynamic thinker with creative ideas. SCHEDULE
: 25 hours per week; weekday hours with evening and weekend hours as necessary. Actual schedule may be flexible.


SALARY
: $20 - $24 per hour (depending on skills and qualifications)


BENEFITS
: Part of the total compensation package includes paid time off benefits (i.e., vacation and sick leave). Retirement savings options include participation in the IMRF pension plan.


PURPOSE
:

Under the direct supervision of the Head of Marketing, the Marketing Assistant supports the department in managing brand and marketing initiatives. This position will be responsible for copy editing and proofreading of content for a wide range of communications both digitally and in print. In addition, this position will create content for the library’s social media platforms and perform administrative tasks as assigned.


SUMMARY OF DUTIES
:

This position comprises of the following essential duties:

  • Copy editing (approx. 50%)
  • Social Media (approx. 40%)

Other non-essential job duties include various clerical tasks and providing administrative support to the department.


JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
:

Copy Editing

  • Drafts and organizes direct mail newsletter content
  • Copy edits and proofreads content for a wide range of communications, such as social media, newsletters, website, and online calendar, Library public relations and marketing campaigns, news releases, and internal and external marketing and promotional materials
  • Develops and manages content to engage customers and market library programs and services.
  • Publishes monthly events in calendar software
  • Engages with staff from various departments to synthesize information to be used to market library programs and services.
  • Publishes press releases as directed
  • Publishes content to indoor digital signage and the library’s outdoor sign

Social Media

  • Administers and monitors the library’s social media accounts
  • Tracks and reports accurate social media and other marketing related traffic, usage, and patron statistics as assigned
  • Collaborates with the social media workgroup and schedules social media postings
  • Creates ad hoc social media posts, as needed or required
  • Processes photo and video clips to generate Instagram stories
  • Updates the Library’s YouTube channel with program video content
  • References approved photos and illustrations from design files as needed


Administrative Support

  • Monitors registration activity and recommends extra promotions as warranted
  • Maintains marketing forms, supplies, and other materials as needed
  • Maintains schedules for various marketing initiatives
  • Organizes and manages storage of marketing collateral
  • Orders and distributes as appropriate promotional giveaways
  • Monitors and updates promotional material within the Library
  • Prints and cuts promotional material as requested (i.e. flyers, bookmarks, pamphlets, etc.)
  • May communicate with community partners, patrons and staff in support of any marketing initiatives.
  • May research opportunities to increase brand awareness and user experiences at the library and through its digital platforms
  • Assist with event planning for large scale and outreach events including Teddy Bear Walk, FanFest, One Book One Village, 4th of July parade, Cultural Fair, and National Night Out
  • Attend events to take photographs or help with staffing
  • Attends appropriate meetings, workshops and seminars
  • Serves on committees as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

College coursework (or degree) in marketing, business or related field. Up to 3 years of work experience in marketing or public relations is required (or the equivalent education and work experience. Library experience (or public service) a plus.
