Description:
The Massage Therapist provides Massage Therapy treatment through soft tissue manipulation and pain management for patients. Actively participates in clinical care team sessions.
Primary Functions:
- Receives referrals on patients for whom massage may be effective for symptom control/comfort.
- Determines patient’s appropriateness for massage therapy in collaboration with care team.
- Performs initial and ongoing assessment. Evaluates the patient level of function and identifies patient problems. Establishes goals to meet patient needs.
- Review plan of treatment with the RN Case Manager in collaboration with the patient/family, physician, and other members of the Care Team.
- Evaluate patient to determine painful or stressed areas of the body.
- Consults with the RN case manager and patients PCP on an ongoing basis and develops and or revises treatment plan as necessary.
- Performs therapeutic massage while incorporating addition therapies including relaxation and breathing techniques and imagery in accordance with accepted certification practices.
- Effectively inform and educate patients about specific wellness concerns.
- Utilizes equipment required to increase the patient’s function and independence.
- Provides treatment in accordance with the plan of care per physician order.
- Provides consultation and education to the patient, family and care team members as appropriate.
- Attends and participates in IDT meetings when appropriate.
- Provides discharge planning and communicates the plan to the IDT and RN case manager.
- Completes accurate and timely patient charting documentation for all patient activities. Follows organization documentation guidelines including electronic and paper processes.
- Participates in Quality Improvement activities.
- Supervises the physical therapy assistant as appropriate.
- Follows infection control procedures and policies.
- Assumes responsibility for own professional development by attending continuing education and in-service programs.
- Familiarizes and complies with all VNA policies and procedures.
- Meets standards of behavior expectations.
- Follows established guidelines for use and/or disclosure of protected health information. Employees should report any breaches of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) rules to the Privacy Officer (Director of Quality, Education & Risk Management) immediately. Failure to comply with HIPAA policies and procedures will result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

Qualifications
- Licensed as a Massage Therapist in the State of Illinois.
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Some college coursework preferred.
- Three years experience as a Massage Therapist preferred.
- Exemplary interpersonal and communication skills are required.
- Health policies and requirements are met (See Personnel Policies)
- Current Driver’s License and auto insurance.
- Maintains current CPR certification.
- Ability to use a computer.

8. Ability to wear a particulate respirator during patient care as necessary.
