Senior Materials Engineer – Fracture Mechanics
Fracture Mechanics SME to Support Consulting and Product Development.

MMT is a rapidly growing startup company that develops innovative nondestructive testing (NDT) technologies for critical energy infrastructure field inspection. Our technology reduces asset integrity risk as well as improves safety and environmental sustainability through innovation. MMT’s two current technologies provide customers with non-destructive measures of tensile strength and fracture toughness material properties used to evaluate the remaining service capacity of critical assets.

Position Description: MMT is seeking an experienced Materials/Mechanical Engineer in asset integrity or fitness-for-service to join our Innovation and Research & Development team that transforms new material testing concepts into commercial equipment. The ideal candidate will be a subject matter expert on fracture mechanics and will be responsible for advising and guiding the new product development team, be able to support commercial operations and existing customers with reporting and safety compliance initiatives and take a lead role in fracture mechanics consulting with external customers as part of MMT’s newly established consulting practice. The role will have high visibility and the candidate will support both internally and externally funded (SBIR, JIP, etc.) projects to assist with meeting the annual and long-term objectives of the company. The Materials/Mechanical Engineer will report to the VP of Innovation and will be provided with strategic project objectives with measurable deliverables. The candidate should be a self-starter, have excellent communication skills, be comfortable working in a high visibility role in a fast-paced work environment, and be passionate about the energy transition and the safety of worldwide energy infrastructure. Responsibilities:

  • Subject matter expert with great communication skills to be able to advise both internal and external customers on the use of fracture mechanics and fitness-for-service
  • Provide support to the new product development team commercializing instruments to measure fracture toughness material properties
  • Engage and consult directly with customers to grow MMT as a world-class resource for fracture mechanics related to energy and industrial infrastructure
  • Provide engineering support to sales, business development, and operations groups within MMT as necessary including the reporting of results for safety compliance

Skills & Qualifications:

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in materials science or mechanical engineering with 5-8+ years of industry experience
  • Working familiarity with Finite Element Analysis modeling and concepts
  • SME in the field of engineering fracture mechanics or fitness-for-service for asset integrity management
  • Proven technical communication skills for both internal and market-facing engagements.
  • Experience with Oil & Gas, Power Generation, Energy Transition, or Renewable Energy industries is a plus.
  • Engineering consulting experience is a plus.
  • Must be local to or willing to relocate to Boston, MA area
