Job Summary:
Safe Flight has an immediate opening for a Mechanical Design Engineer whose responsibilities will include product/process improvement, engineering documentation, design, research, and prototyping of aircraft safety and performance devices. The successful candidate will gain unique hands-on exposure to the entire product lifecycle facilitated by Safe Flight’s on-site manufacturing and engineering laboratory while collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team of Engineering and Production personnel.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Optimize manufacturing processes and procedures
- Collaborate with Production and Quality personnel to design and improve assembly and inspection fixturing
- Conduct engineering analyses
- Interface with multi-disciplinary teams, both internal and external (customers, suppliers, etc.)
- Use 3D CAD software to design and develop mechanical drawings
- Construct and evaluate engineering prototypes
- Complete the design process by generating production drawings and associated documentation
- Design and perform various qualification testing
- Develop project schedules and cost estimates based on design requirements
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Proficiency with 3D CAD software, preferably Autodesk Inventor
- Experience with understanding and applying GD&T
- Extensive knowledge of materials and material properties
- Familiarity with metal fabrication processes
Preferred Assets:
- Understanding of fluid dynamics and heat transfer principles
- Exposure to designing for additive manufacturing (3D printing)
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering (or related field)
- 5+ years experience as a manufacturing or mechanical engineer, or 3+ years with an applicable Master’s degree
