Description

SAIC is seeking to hire a Mechanical Engineer to support our Defense System Group in Huntsville, Alabama. In this role you will contribute to the design, evaluation, and documentation of mechanical products and systems by developing detailed Solidworks models and drawings to support the Defense Systems Group's efforts.

Note, this position is a hybrid role that allows flexibility to work part-time telework / part-time on site. Candidate must reside in or near Huntsville, Alabama.

About the Program:

This position is for the Defense System Group, which provides system-of-systems engineering and integration solutions that protect and mitigate hostile actions against military personnel, resources and facilities. This team integrates commercial off-the-shelf sensors including chemical and biological, acoustical, radar and other sensors that are used by both terrestrial and unmanned aerial systems to improve facility monitoring. The Defense System Group's expertise in modeling, simulation, system integration and software engineering delivers systems and software to provide increased situational awareness, enhanced standoff and security posture and deterrence.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret technical drawings, and schematics
  • Conduct research in support of design proposals, specifications, and manuals to help evaluate the feasibility, cost, and/or maintenance requirements of designs
  • Select and specify components or direct modification of existing products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications;
    • Investigate product/equipment for out of specification conditions, assembly/use difficulties and/or failures in order to diagnose faulty operation, and to make recommendations for improvements; Document the design of products, using CAD design/drafting tools
  • Test and analyze the feasibility, design, operation and performance of equipment, components and systems; Develop and test alternate designs and processing methods to assess feasibility, operating condition effects, possible new applications and necessity of modifications; Assist in investigations of non-conformances and recommends corrective action to prevent reoccurrence
  • Communicate and collaborate in a multidisciplinary team environment

Qualifications

Required Education:

Bachelors with at least two (2) years of experience; four (4) years of experience accepted in lieu of degree.

Required Skills:

  • Experience with Solid Works and/or Solid Works EPDM
  • Experience with CAD 3D programs
  • Experience with ASME Y14.100 drawing standards and GD&T knowledge
  • Ability to read & understand engineering drawings
  • Proficient written & verbal communication skills

Required Clearance:

Must have an Interim Secret clearance prior to start of employment with the ability to obtain and maintain Secret Clearance; US Citizenship required.
