MEDICAL OFFICE PHONE RECEPTIONIST
Position Title: Medical Office Phone Receptionist

Position in Imperial Beach, Ca 91932

1. Full time. Great hours. 9:00 am to 6:00 pm Monday thru Friday with 1 hour lunch.
2. No health benefits

6. Preferably but not necessary experience in an optometric office.
General Summary: Clerical position responsible for providing outstanding customer service to patients and their families. The Medical Office Phone Receptionist (MOPR) is the first contact with patients and is responsible for creating a positive first impression: The MOPR greets patients and customers on the telephone. Following prescribed procedures, obtains financial and demographic information from patients in a sensitive and caring manner. Maintains appropriate levels of confidentiality.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

1. Provides information to clinic callers according to policies and procedures; transfers calls as needed, works with colleagues to ensure adequate phone coverage at all times.
2. When scheduling appointment, carefully screen patient for new address, new patient visit or update registration fields and informs patient of adequate information that must be presented at the time of the visit
3. Assists in confirming patient insurance eligibility and/or benefits as needed.
4. Exercises problem-solving and conflict resolution skills when handling patient complaints; refers patient complaints to appropriate designated personnel as needed.

5. Attendance, promptness, professionalism, the ability to pay attention to detail, cooperativeness with co-workers and supervisors, and politeness to customers, vendors, and patients.
13. Maintains the strictest confidentiality in accordance with all relevant HIPAA rules/regulations and office policy and procedures.

Experience: Minimum of one year of experience in an office, customer service or reception, preferably in a medical office or equivalent training. Bilingual in Spanish and English necessary.

Skills:
1. Ability to provide written and verbal communication.
2. Skill in providing internal and external customer service, both in person and over the telephone.
3. Intermediate to advanced phone skills; able to effectively relate via the telephone and in-person to serve the needs of Clinic patients/clients/visitors in a manner that is efficient and productive.
4. Skilled in prioritizing, time management and attention to detail.

Abilities:
1. Ability to use multi-line phone system, including transferring calls.
2. Promptly and professionally answer phone and speak with patients.
3. Ability to speak clearly and loudly enough to be heard by callers and patients.
4. Ability to type and edit a variety of correspondence.
5. Ability to elicit appropriate information to route calls to the appropriate person.
6. Ability to prevent, calm, or defuse irate callers and patients by working with them to identify concerns and properly directs calls.
7. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
8. Prioritization and coordinate work activities.
9. Ability to edit and review documents for typographical errors, omissions or lack of clarity.
10. Ability to work at a high professional level, including self-motivation and self-discipline, assuring that work is completed accurately, efficiently and without significant supervision

Mental/Physical Requirements: Involves sitting approximately 90 percent of the day, walking or standing the remainder.
