Medical Transcriptionist/Scribe Job at Retina Consultants, Ltd.
Retina Consultants, Ltd. is a medical and surgical retina practice serving the greater Chicago area with offices in Des Plaines, Libertyville, Elgin, Lisle, Hickory Hills and Wilmette. Our team specializes in adult retinal disease and pediatric retinal disease and has been providing unmatched care to the Chicago area for over 35 years.
We are looking for a medical transcriptionist to add to our team in Des Plaines.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with our medical staff to create an accurate record of patient care.
- Create a patient’s medical record by way of physician's verbal or written dictations. The medical chart includes the patient’s chief complaints, medical/surgical history, exam findings, diagnosis codes, tests performed, and the doctor’s plan of treatment.
- Proofread and edit all the medical records and physician's documents for accuracy, spelling, punctuation and grammar.
- Support quality control in our medical documentation by ensuring all clinical data, lab or other test results, and the interpretation of the results by the physician are recorded accurately in the medical record.
- Comply with specific standards that apply to the style of medical records and to the legal and ethical requirements for preparing medical documents in a timely fashion and for keeping patient information confidential.
- Communicate with patients, medical practices, insurance companies, and other offices regarding medical record requests and patient information.
- Fax and mail medical records to medical practices, patients, insurance companies and other offices.
- Work closely with our billing department to ensure accuracy of each patient’s visit.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
- An understanding of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, diagnostic procedures, pharmacology and treatment assessments to the extent required to understand and accurately transcribe dictated reports. Translate medical abbreviations into their expanded forms.
- Qualified candidates will be able to learn and use all functions of electronic medical record software. Must accurately enter data into a medical record chart and database, search information, send and receive email attachments.
- Must be able to function as part of a team while meeting mandated individual work submission deadlines.
- Must have good communication skills in order to interact at an appropriate level with teammates, physicians and patients.
PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
· Must be able to type at least 60 WPM.
· Must be able to work in fast-paced environment.
· Must show good judgement, organizational ability, initiative, attention to detail, and be self-motivated.
· Must comply with HIPAA confidentiality standards when accessing or communicating patient information.
· Must be discreet, tactful and modest in performance of duties so as not to distract medical staff from patient care.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.00 - $22.00 per hour
