Qualifications


J OB SPECIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate competency in the criteria listed in this job description. The specifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability to meet the minimum requirements for this position. Staff must demonstrate flexibility for reassignment to units providing care to varied populations including children, adolescents, and adults.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited program in an area of human services, which includes, but may not be limited to the following: psychology, sociology, political science, counseling, criminal justice, pastoral counseling, elementary/special education, or family therapy. High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) equivalent, plus a minimum of 2 years of experience (paid or unpaid) in a human service field. This experience must involve direct contact with the individual receiving services (i.e. coaching, teaching, case management, etc.).

Experience: Minimum of (2) year experience working in a direct care setting.

Knowledge: Must possess knowledge of psychiatric group processes, therapeutic relationship processes, age-specific growth and development, limit setting, and behavior management, crisis management with aggressive behaviors.

Job Specific Responsibilities:

  • Conducts Patient Observation Safety Rounds as per policy.
  • Checks daily assignment sheet for scheduled duties each shift and accepts assignments/reassignment when necessary.
  • Observes patient behavior and documents observation according to hospital policies.
  • Demonstrates understanding of procedures implemented for patients on special precautions.
  • Is active participant in the therapeutic milieu and is engaged with patient population.
  • Intervenes with patients during critical incidents such as escalation, elopement and suicidal behavior.
  • Organizes and facilitates patient activities and appropriately utilizes group protocols.
  • Assists with admission, discharge and transfer procedures.
  • Orients new patients to the unit.
  • Competent in taking vital signs, weights, heights and obtaining urine specimens.
  • Assists patient with ADLs
  • Maintains all required competencies in timely manner.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Registered Nurses
  • Displays Service Excellence standards and promotes facility Mission and Values.
Competencies/Trainings
Handle With Care, CPR, Verbal De-escalation, Age Specific Training, Therapeutic Boundaries, Hand Hygiene, Assessment and Prevention of Risk, Patient Observation Rounds, Therapeutic Milieu, Informed Consent, Infection Control, Patient Bathroom Competencies, Code of Conduct, Group Expectations, Fire Safety, All Safety Test, Clinical Staff Safety Test, any additional assignment assigned by the facility.

Environmental Conditions:
Exposure to psychiatric patients who may exhibit violent/aggressive behavior. Potential for exposure to communicable diseases, blood and body fluids, and other hazardous waste. General hospital environment.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Physical agility to manage patients. Push, pull, and lift up to 40 pounds. Intermittent sitting, standing, walking, bending, and stooping. Drug and alcohol free as evidenced by negative results of post-offer, pre-employment urine drug screen.
