Employment Status:

This is a Temporary, non-exempt position, funded for a minimum of 24 hours to a maximum of 28 hours per week. Funding is currently under review to support 28 hours per week from January 2023 through May 31, 2023, for this temporary position. Further funding opportunities will be pursued to expand this position to a permanent, full-time position with health benefits.

Description of Duties and Responsibilities: The Program Assistant will be working with students in Parlier School district through Focus Forward Mentoring Program. The Program Assistant will work with Focus Forward Mentor Program, and Parlier Unified to best serve the students and their support network for academic success. The Mentor Program Assistant will take the lead on Tier-3 level student referrals, case plans and will be responsible for upholding the case plan and reporting on the student’s progress.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Meets with Focus Forward Volunteer Coordinator weekly to ensure Students and Mentors are matched and receive academic services and support each week.
  • Maintains and updates Focus Forward database making changes, additions, and deletions as needed.
  • Assists coordinator with a variety of schedules and files for the purpose of providing accurate information in compliance with Focus Forward and Parlier Unified policies.
  • Work with Mentors to develop weekly mentoring schedule for referred students for a successful positive outcome in their school sites, home and in the community.
  • Supporting interns and volunteer case managers/mentors
  • Provide ongoing case management, various screenings, and referrals to low-Moderate students as needed
  • Collect aggregate information and/or enter data into system
  • Track all services rendered and client outcomes.
  • Flexibility regarding scheduling (some classes/workshops will need to be offered on evenings and/or weekends—as needed by students)
  • Provide support with community referrals to ensure all needs of students are being met
  • Attend relevant trainings, workshops, and community meetings
  • Work with the Community Prevention Coordinator for Parlier Unified to develop positive communication with school administration and families

Specific/Additional Duties:

  • Be responsive, consistent, and reliable with all clients, staff and partners
  • Maintain up-to-date, well-organized, and accurate case files and records
  • Facilitate various groups such as cognitive-behavioral change classes, support groups, independent living skills workshops, etc.
  • All other duties as assigned

  • Ability to develop and maintain professional working relationships with management, co-workers, partners and general public
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Knowledge of available resources within the community for the client population
  • Ability to work with youth, young adults and families who face multiple risk factors, barriers and may have had justice and/or child welfare involvement
  • Ability to speak with clients one on one and to speak to large groups of people which may include public presentations and facilitating workshops
  • Ability to think critically and identify opportunities, challenges, needs and prioritization of work to meet mandatory outcomes of program and organization
  • Must exercise good judgement and have experience working on projects with specific goals and outcome measurements
  • Must be organized and be able to connect program and client needs to other services, may need to think ‘outside the box’ and brainstorm with staff and partners to fully meet client and family needs
  • Have a basic understanding of working in a school setting, child welfare, justice systems and ability to learn to navigate systems on behalf of youth
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English preferred.

Experience: Experience working in a school setting with at-risk youth and families with various cultures and backgrounds to best serve clients. Working in multi-disciplinary teams, using culturally sensitive approaches, following established mentoring curriculums, and assessing any needs or barriers affecting participant success.

Qualifications: AA degree or bachelor’s degree (preferred) in social work, sociology, child development or related field, or year-for-year experience working in a school district setting with at-risk youth and/or their families with Case Management experience. (Spanish speaking Preferred.)

Background Clearance Requirement: Employment will be contingent on successfully passing a mandatory background check through Fresno County Probation. This will be completed, passed and clearance will be maintained according to the satisfaction of Probation. An outside background clearance will not be accepted or considered.

Additional Requirements: Must have and maintain CA Driver’s License with reliable transportation with the following minimum coverage: $15,000 per person / $30,000 per accident minimum and property damage liability coverage: $5,000 minimum.
