THE ROLE:
The Metal Finishing Production Manager at Alliance organizes and directs critical company workflow and plating operations. This position works closely with the President and is ultimately responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the efficient operations of the production facility in order to produce high quality finished products. The Production Manager is responsible for managing daily operations and planning the use of plating chemicals, materials and team members to ensure quality product and timely delivery of our world class plating services to customers. This position is responsible for production planning and budgeting, hiring, supervising, and managing operating expenses and personnel. RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage a team of 10+ employees in our plating facility. Team is comprised of a Process Engineer/Chemist, Expediter, platers, maskers, shipping and receiving.
- Coordinate across front office staff and plating teams to facilitate the creation and implementation of strategic and tactical objectives that enable the company to reach aggressive growth goals.
- Estimate production costs, prepare company and project budgets in order to establish and enforce realistic and challenging production rates.
- Recruit, interview, hire, manage and evaluate plating production staff. Develop all team members to establish career progression opportunities within their department and organization. Conduct performance reviews to ensure team is operating efficiently and delivering the highest quality products.
- Monitor and optimize daily plating production performance in relation to company established goals.
- Create a safe and positive atmosphere by continuously communicating, resolving issues, and developing incentives and retention strategies.
- Maintain a healthy and safe working environment by training staff on safe working techniques and monitoring employee behaviors and equipment functionality. Ensure all employees follow industry standard health and safety guidelines.
- Ensure that all environmental aspects of chemical storage, hazardous waste disposal, and work with plant waste water treatment are adhered to in order to ensure environmental compliance.
- Maintain and ensure a routine preventive maintenance plan for all equipment.
- Partner with supervisors to create production shifts that optimally utilize labor and capacity, responding to seasonality issues by adjusting headcount, workload or shifts accordingly. Coordinate with expediters for parts delivery and pickup within local area.
- Review plating processes, cost, labor, and plant utilization in order to reduce expenses and increase productivity across all departments.
- Maintain sufficient levels of all required plating chemicals, raw materials and shipping supplies. Coordinate and identify any maintenance requirements whether they be process equipment, boiler operation or general plant repair.
- Review blueprints for accuracy, create shop travelers and job folders for plating.
- Lead daily management production meetings with Office Manager to assess customer parts delivery or processing needs, provide feedback on quality issues and internal / external customer feedback.
- Respond to customer inquiries for pickups, deliveries and job completion status.
- Inspect materials and production records to ensure the plating and delivery of finished highly cosmetic plated products.
- Provide motivation, support and guidance to all team members while communicating any problems or obstacles to President.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrochemical, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science or have sufficient work experience in lieu of degree.
- Minimum 6 years of Leadership experience in a metal finishing environment. Familiar with ISO/AS9100 Quality systems, NADCAP shop travellers, MIL-spec plating and various aerospace and commercial aircraft quality/process control systems.
- Hands-on experience with process, chemistry, and chemical development. Knowledgeable about passivation, electropolishing and electroless nickel.
- Able to understand and analyze customer blueprints, plating specifications and MIL-spec.
- Able to use measurement tools such as micrometers, gauge pins and other equipment necessary to ensure that parts meet blueprint specifications and coating / plating requirements.
- Proven track-record of developing and deploying creative and practical process solutions for high-volume manufacturing.
- Proven track-record of supervising and disciplining employees as well as assessing training needs, job placement and advancement.
- Willingness to take responsibility and ownership to aggressively focus on problems either individually or part of a larger team. A pragmatic sense of how to get things done.
- Solid verbal and written communication skills.
- Capability to adapt to the company's changing needs and priorities and be a self-motivated team player.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to price orders and create plating contract work bids for customers
- Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred
