SUMMARY OF POSITION: Directs activities of the metal finishing department in an efficient manner to produce the desired quality and quantity of work to support instrumentation and metal fabrication departments. Responsible for all metal finishing processes and the efficient utilization of labor, material, and equipment to meet established production schedules.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Oversee polishing, deburring, tumble deburring, blasting, electro polishing, welding, assembly, in-process cleaning and passivation of surgical instruments, implants, and trays.
- Develop production standards. Ensure that all required processes are completed to produce parts that meet quality standards. Ensure that all required processes are completed to produce parts that meet quality and ISO standards in a timely manner.
- Provide leadership and guidance to personnel assigned to cell. Ensure production schedules are completed and good quality parts are produced.
- Direct employee assignments to meet production schedules and ensure jobs are being produced in an efficient manner.
- Discipline individuals or groups using corrective action system when policies or procedures are not followed.
- Responsible for the completion of performance reviews and recommendations for promotions of individuals residing in the cell.
- Inspect product for compliance to requirements at all stages and administer piece approval.
- Oversee coordination of material requirements with production orders and delivery goals.
- Participate in departmental meetings as needed regarding production, engineering, and quality control.
- Oversee completion of documentation requirements.
- Ensure preventive maintenance and upkeep of equipment. Troubleshoot problems associated with equipment, tooling and processes.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
OCCASIONAL DUTIES:
- Direct repair of returned product. Inform personnel of changes to procedures and policies.
- Assembly of work instruments.
- Assist in other departments, as needed.
EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION: High School diploma, supervisory training or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Five or more years’ experience in all aspects of metal finishing, stainless steel, aluminum, titanium, phenolic, some polymers.
SKILLS: Excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills. Ability to assess situations and solve problems in a timely manner. Ability to use polishing lathes, suction or pressure blasters, passivation (i.e., tanks, vibratory tumblers), as needed. Expert knowledge of blueprint reading and machinery limitations. Ability to work with minimal supervision and to be team oriented. Excellent visual inspection ability. Sufficient manual dexterity to handle and manipulate delicate parts and measuring instruments. Analytical capabilities to interpret detailed and complex blueprints. Ability to operate inspection and measurement equipment.
