Boeing Defense, Space and Security is searching for a Mission Support Manager (Level L) to lead a team of 12+ talented and dedicated engineers under the Mission Systems Engineering and Operations Department of SEIT Capability in El Segundo, CA.

The successful candidate will lead the diverse National Program teams and ensure that the Mission Support function provides excellent services to our customers. The successful candidate will be accountable for spreading best practices and efficiencies across the business which includes the development of products, tools and infrastructure that will deliver containment, proactive and preventative solutions to customers operations and assets. This position will manage employees performing activities across multiple engineering disciplines. Regularly develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with customer executives, stakeholders, peers, partners and direct reports. Excels at presenting themselves as the best of Boeing to our customers and senior leadership. The manager is responsible for managing the people, processes, and tools needed to execute the Mission Support scope across a portfolio of proprietary programs in Satellite Systems. The Ideal candidate will have prior experience and advanced knowledge of satellite operations, satellite systems engineering, satellite GN&C or related engineering disciplines. Additionally, skills and experience is expected with respect to customer engagement and interaction, communication well as building and maintaining a world-class team. Candidates with a strong background in several of the following areas will be highly considered: satellite mission operations including CONOPS development, astrodynamics, orbital mechanics, analysis and simulation, spacecraft dynamics, or mission systems engineer roles, and Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA).

The Mission Support Manager plays a critical leadership role across proprietary programs assuring quality sustainment services to all its customers. The manager is responsible for guiding the customer-facing Leads in influencing customer relationships to continue and grow customer funded tasks, which would include promoting enhancements to the applicable Boeing product lines. Provide a feedback loop of product performance by actively monitoring data and working with program teams and new business to enhance spacecraft design. This management position sets the vision and implements the strategies for creating a center of excellence for satellite and satellite systems support. Manages, develops and motivates employees performing engineering and technical activities in the areas of customer asset monitoring, anomaly investigations and operations improvements to a wide range of customer assets.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manages employees performing engineering and technical activities in the areas of satellite Mission Support, including work of remote teams.

  • Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners and direct reports.

  • Manage priorities and evaluate performance of major supplier and the efforts of minor suppliers.

  • Manage the effort of ground operations products, software and tools development and validation efforts and ensure operability.

  • Proposal leadership.

  • Develops and executes project and process plans, implements policies and procedures and sets operational goals.

  • Acquires resources for projects and processes, provides technical management of suppliers and leads process improvements.

  • Provides oversight and approval of technical approaches, products and processes.

  • Develop spacecraft Flight operations requirements.

  • Develops and maintains tools to mission sustainment and operations.

  • Supports Mission operations specialists.

  • Manages, develops, mentors and motivates employees.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

This position requires a current Tier 5 (T5), formerly known as a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) (U.S. Citizenship required) or requires candidate agreed to enter a Continuous Evaluation program.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience):

  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.

  • 4 years or more of experience related to satellite operations.

  • 2 years or more of leadership experience.

  • 2 years or more of IPT or project management experience, including Earned Value fundamentals.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills and Experience):

  • Knowledge or experience in classical and modern control theory/design/analysis.

  • Experience performing trade studies related to mission design and astrodynamics analysis.

  • Background in aerospace operations and environments.

  • Experience with requirements identification and validation.

  • Experience with software and tool development process.
