Since 1955, PhysLab (Physicians Laboratory Services) has provided reliable laboratory services to eastern Nebraska and western Iowa and currently operates two laboratory locations in Omaha and Lincoln with over 180 employees. PhysLab offers competitive hourly/salary pay and benefits for full time employees including Medical/Dental/Vision, 401(k) and company paid life and AD&D policies, with PTO and Sick leave accruing from day one. We take pride in our employees and our work and are looking to expand our team by adding a Medical Laboratory Scientists/Medical Technician – Hematology Department to our lab in Omaha.
This person will perform laboratory procedures using established and approved protocols. This position requires the use of independent judgment and responsibility with minimal technical supervision. Eligible candidates must be available to work 2:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. shifts Monday through Friday, along with rotating weekend day shifts and holiday shifts. You may be asked occasionally to fill in for a day shift. Starting pay will depend upon experience and will range from $24.00 $28.00. Shift differential of 15% is paid for all shifts starting after 12:00 p.m. This is a benefits eligible position.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors or Associate Degree in medical laboratory science required.
- Current MLS (ASCP) or MLT (ASCP), in good standing, required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Regular and punctual attendance at the assigned work location.
- Follow the laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.
- Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples.
- Adhere to the laboratory’s quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.
- Follow the laboratory’s established corrective action policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory’s established acceptable levels of performance.
- Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the General Supervisor, Technical Supervisor, Clinical Consultant or Laboratory Director.
- Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications.
- Participate in the development and evaluation of new laboratory procedures to maintain current preferred methodologies.
- Communicate results to necessary laboratory personnel and/or clients via verbal, written, or computer link communication in a prompt, professional and courteous manner.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area according to safety standards and Laboratory image requirements.
- Contribute to the efficient operation of the Laboratory.
- Participates in department meetings and Laboratory committee activities to maintain continuity, consistency, and communication within and outside the department.
- Maintain confidentiality of all laboratory information according to Laboratory policy.
TASKS:
- Participates in proficiency testing according to Laboratory protocol.
- Answers inquiries regarding test results, methodology, test specificity and sensitivity, and specific factors that can influence test results.
- Participates in the instruction of employees and in the Laboratory’s continuing education program.
- Ensures lab results are reported accurately and timely.
- Rotates reagents and test kit stock to maintain currency and continuity of lot numbers.
- Using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), ensures proper handling of specimens and disposal of contaminated material according to the Laboratory safety procedures.
- Troubleshoots malfunction of laboratory instrumentation.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
