GENERAL SUMMARYWorks under the supervision of the MRI Manager. The MRI Staff Technologist's primary job junction is to safely prepare patients for Magnetic Resonance Imaging, safely operate MRI equipment for a variety of procedures, and maintain equipment and supplies to support the equipment and patient as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
-
High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required

Graduate of an accredited radiology program required
-
Associate degree in Radiologic Technology preferred

Licensure:
-
ARRT(R) required
-
ARRT(MR) within one year of hire required
-
BLS required
-
BLS within 90 days of hire required
-

Experience:

Previous MR or CT experience preferred

Interpersonal Skills:

Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate positively and courteously in dealing with customers (patients, patients' families, physicians, co-workers, and the public.). Must possess interpersonal skills to act as a hospital representative among the patients, the physicians' office staff and any other customers. Must possess ability to remain calm and soothing to patients and customers during stressful situations. Must be professional, friendly, outgoing, and positive: Interact in pleasant and professional manner with other employees, physicians, providers, patients, and patient's families to promote a team effort through cooperation and respect for fellow employees. Ability to communicate with co-workers, professional staff, and the public in a courteous professional manner. Must communicate with patients and families, co-workers, and physicians to effectively care for the patient.

Essential Technical/Motor Skills:

Hand/eye coordination in order to perform examinations using complex equipment requiring precise calibrations. Speak clearly to communicate with customers.

Essential Physical Requirements:

The physical demand for this position is medium to heavy. May occasionally push or pull wheelchairs, carts with patients weighing over 300 hundred pounds with assistance. May also be required to transport and/or position patients weighing over 300 pounds with assistance. Ability to maneuver objects, equipment, and patients as required to perform examinations and patient care functions.

Essential Mental Requirements:

Must be able to manipulate numbers, percentages, and indexes from equipment in order to successfully complete scanning procedures and patent care functions. Must be able to learn and comprehend complex procedures.

Essential Sensory Requirements:

Ability to feel and grasp objects for making fine adjustments. Ability to utilize sight to perform studies and interpret results. Ability to hear and speak clearly to communicate with others.

Exposure to Hazards:

Exposure to strong electro-magnetic fields, liquid and gaseous helium, sharps, and communicable diseases. May be exposed to infectious diseases and body fluids.

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
- Greets patients in a friendly manner, makes positive ID ( 2 Identifiers ) and safely prepares patients for procedure.
- Checks all orders before performing exams.
- Obtains appropriate and accurate medical history, screens patient for MRI unsafe conditions, and determines appropriateness of study ordered.
- Performs appropriate scanning procedures with correct anatomy displayed. Formulates scan to pathology or medical condition as required.
- Documentation of pregnancy on the RIS ( Radiology Information system).
- Administers contrast media per established departmental guidelines.
- Assists in the training of new or less experienced employees and/or students.
- Maintains adequate stock of medical supplies and looks for cost reduction opportunities.
- Maintains cleanliness of equipment, work and break area.
- Schedules patients for procedures, and when required coordinates with other departments to ensure patient flow and maximizes room time.
- Formats images to hard copy for interpretation as required. Archives images to PACS system with correct medical record and accession numbers.
- Documents information concerning patient or staff injury.
- Performs Quality Assurance activities as required.
- Performs all duties utilizing proper safety precautions for working in and around a strong magnetic field.
- Performs all duties in a pleasant professional manner.
- Maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.
- Behaves in a professional manner at all times (includes not abusing telephone privileges, breaks, socializing, and being consistently punctual, etc.). Acknowledges and adheres to the “Standards of Behavior” handbook.
- Pre-cleans, decontaminates and transports contaminated instruments according to policy
- Performs intermediate-level disinfection and/ or high level disinfection per the Instructions for Use (IFU) by the manufacture. This includes ensuring the scopes or probes used within the department are cleaned, disinfected, maintained and stored per the IFU’s.
