Natural Gas Analyst

This analyst is accountable for the effective management of the database, data processing tools and techniques utilized in support of the departmental load forecasting responsibilities related to the supply and expense computer models. The incumbent develops and maintains understanding of models including logic, data requirements and output reports.

This position is eligible for a hybrid work environment - 3 days on site and 2 remote after six months.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate scheduling, operational runs, data collection, information validation and updates with other model users.
  • Assist in the determination of economic dispatch priorities and alternatives; develops trend analyses, budget assumptions and prepares result reports for management.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of database analysis experience to modify projection input, prepares statistical reports required by industry associations and governmental agencies, provide liaison and support among appropriate company departments and facilitates cross-training of company personnel.
  • Maintain and operates MS Excel computer models, providing supply and cost forecasting for use in operational and corporate decision-making and maintaining an alertness to change in state-of-the-art techniques.
  • Maintain historical database of subject pipeline contracts; rates; availability conditions; supplies; curtailments; annual/seasonal allocation plans and levels; storage facilities including availability, injections/withdrawals and balances; daily Interruptible and GTS customer usage.
  • Maintains and updates logic, identifying necessary enhancements.
  • Manage execution of MS Excel models including verifying reasonableness of output and maintenance of records and documentation.
  • Monitor daily dispatch efforts for appropriateness and currency in modeling, tracks activities in regard to supply alternatives, usage factors, timing and future directions.
  • Assist in preparation of responses to interdepartmental data request and for external interrogatories of the Gas Commission, Gas Commission Staff and or Public Utility Commission (PUC), Public Advocate, Industry Associations and Governmental Agencies.
  • Perform other special assignments and projects as requested.

Qualifications:
  • BS/BA degree required - major in Business, Finance, Economics or associated technical discipline. Advanced degree a plus.
  • Minimum of 3 years professional analytical experience preferably with the Government or Utility Industry.
  • Advanced proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office. Proven ability utilizing advanced functionality in MS Excel.
  • Resourceful, focused, determined and a self-starter with a proven ability to gather, synthesize, analyze and disseminate information.
  • Must have verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to function well in a team-oriented environment; prepare detailed statistical reports and develop good working relationship among co-workers, supervisors, outside agencies and government officials.
  • Comfortable with both qualitative and quantitative analysis.
  • Must be well-organized with project management skills and the ability to work smoothly under pressure while meeting critical deadlines.
