Position Summary

The New Product Development (NPD) Project Engineer will be working with manufacturing equipment in a medical device environment. They will be working on a quick action force to go after the many exciting opportunities that VitalPath offers its customers. The role of the NPD Project Engineer provides value to our customers by effectively managing scope, budget and timelines of NPD projects through all stages of the product life cycle. Identifying risks and proposing mitigation plans as required, they also share expertise with customers to help them achieve their objectives through the development and manufacturing stages of medical devices.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Project Management of new product prototypes ranging from single components to Assemblies.
• Understand or learn how to operate laser equipment to meet customer demands
• Prototyping fixturing for CI activity
• Review prints and customer requests to understand customer requirements
• Develop the technical project plan and manage work efforts to ensure project schedules are met and areas of high risk are identified and mitigated with appropriate risk mitigation plans
• Manage the project budget including tracking costs and NRE hours and proactively communicating projected cost overruns for possible change orders with the customer
• Participate in customer calls and meetings to gather information for RFQs / jobs and look for opportunities to offer additional value-added solutions
• Work with Purchasing to order materials, components, tools, outsourced operations and equipment as required
• Determine feasibility and gather information on development requirements for new customer projects
• Ensure design verification and validation testing is completed and ensure that all criteria are met
• Specify and perform design verification testing to ensure the designs meet product requirements
• Support the design validation testing for new products
• Write or edit manufacturing work instructions and inspection processes and provide training as required
• Prepare product/tooling drawings using Solid Work/AutoCAD software.
• Serve as a SME for software applications used in the company for project management, time-tracking and other engineering functions.

Experience Requirements

• Project management experience and inclusive of handling multiple tasks/projects concurrently
• Possess mechanical aptitude and quickly learns from a broad array of information
• Excellent verbal and written communications with internal/external customers
• Excellent organizational, listening, and multitasking abilities
• Strong customer service, analytical, and interpersonal skills
• Self-motivated and capable of working in a team environment with minimal supervision
• Well-developed mechanical ability and basic problem-solving skills
• Basic skills with Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook
• Good verbal communication skills
• Laser Experience or a willingness to learn, preferred
• 3 years engineering experience, preferred
• Medical device manufacturing experience, preferred
• Experience supporting new product development, preferred
• Ability to effectively drive results in an influence role

Education:

• Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related technical/scientific field of study
• Preferred
  • Project Management Certification
