This program, started by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, seeks to build community among our members, as well as the people with whom we work by reaching out across culture and class. We are committed to helping people help themselves. Our goal is to promote and encourage education, community empowerment, leadership development and multicultural harmony. NDA creates holistic educational programs for at-risk children and adults in economically disadvantaged communities. Members serve in different non-profits, schools, or after school programs throughout the city of Philadelphia. The Service Site: Established in 1902, Lutheran Settlement House (LSH) is a non-profit, community-based organization committed to serving vulnerable children, adults, and families living in Philadelphia. Over the past century, the programs and services offered by LSH have changed in response to the evolving needs of the community. However, the core mission of Lutheran Settlement House —"to empower individuals, families, and communities to achieve and maintain self-sufficiency through an integrated program of social, educational, and advocacy services"— has remained constant.

Service Description/Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the Senior Services & Nutrition Director, the Tech Tutor is responsible for planning and coordinating tech tutoring and computer lab support responsive to the varied client population of the Senior Community Center, Family Shelter, and Domestic Violence counseling programs. The Tech Tutor works collaboratively with other LSH staff, older adults, and volunteers to make the computer lab and one-on-one tech tutoring an inclusive and welcoming space for all members of the community.

Program Implementation

  • Tutors clients individually to address computer and smart phone literacy needs.
  • Monitors and assists clients in the computer labs at the Fishtown and North Philadelphia locations.
  • Plans, organizes, implements and evaluates technology educational activities.
  • Collaborates with the program staff to respond to technological needs of the clients.
  • Supports food programming, including pantry and farm stand, as needed.
  • Creation and distribution of tech tutoring and computer lab flyers.

Administrative Duties

  • Cover front desk 5pm-7pm Monday through Thursday.
  • Formulates and implements tech tutoring recruitment plan with program staff.
  • Maintains a record of program resources, i.e. speakers, educational materials, internet access information, etc.
  • Ensures that client activities are recorded in funder and internal databases.
  • Data entry and data clean up in agency database, as needed.
  • Participates in agency staff meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills:

  • A minimum of two years of customer service experience.
  • High energy, positive disposition, sensitivity to the needs of older adults and clients in crisis.
  • Comfortable using and assisting others in using a variety of technology devices and programs, ie. smart phones, tablets, Google applications, etc.
  • Experience using Microsoft Outlook and Word.
  • Experience using Mail Chimp and Canva or similar virtual communications tools.
