Job Description:
Transfer Center Specialist
The Transfer Center Specialist facilitates the transfer or transport and transition for all emergent, urgent, and elective patients into the Bay Area Hospital from referring hospitals, clinics, and physician's offices.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA) and related regulations
- Ability to accurately communicate medical status and care provided at referring facility to the acute care nursing staff of patients transferring to the hospital
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
- Ability to perform complex tasks, prioritize multiple projects, and work under pressure to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and apply sound judgment
- Ability to speak and write effectively at a level appropriate for the job
- Efficiency with software interfaces
- Excellent problem solving and customer service skills
- Maintains regular, consistent and punctual attendance at the assigned job location
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/DEGREES
- High School diploma or equivalent
EXPERIENCE
- 3 years in healthcare related field preferred
- Demonstrated practice-building experience preferred

- Able to stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch frequently
- Possess physical agility and adequate reaction time to respond quickly and appropriately to unexpected patient care needs
- Needs adequate hearing and visual acuity, including adequate color vision
- Requires fine motor skills, adequate eye-hand coordination, and ability to grasp and handle objects
- Able to use proper body mechanics to assist patients in ambulating, transferring in and out of bed, chair or wheelchair
- Must use standard precautions due to threat of exposure to blood and bodily fluids
- Needs ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or on telephone
- May require periodic use of personal computer
