The State of New Hampshire, Department of Safety, Division of State Police - Marine Patrol has a full-time vacancy for a (Program Assistant I). This position is a 37.5 hour work week and is non-exempt.

SCOPE OF WORK: Performs diverse administrative duties in support of Marine Patrol by processing transactions for the general public, entering data and information into databases, and preparing and maintaining various documentation.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Provides assistance to the general public at a customer counter, customer service area or employee work station to review, verify and process a variety of boating transactions such as boat registrations, permit requests, and commercial testing applications; collects the appropriate fees. Reviews laws, rules and regulations to answer questions.

Reviews applications for Marine Patrol related permits such as swim-lines, water events, fishing tournaments and moorings. Makes recommendations to supervisory staff on the issuance of said permits.

Processes court-related documentation, to include entering warnings and summonses into databases, preparing draft letters, motions and points of law, and providing regular updates to supervisors on scheduled court hearings.

Coordinates the commercial boating license test process by scheduling testing dates, preparing test materials and assisting the instructor with check-in and grading of tests. Enters results into VISION and in-house databases.

Coordinates and schedules law enforcement officers’ attendance at critical Marine Patrol functions to include District and Superior court proceedings, public relations events, vessel inspections, and commercial operator examinations.

Gathers and reviews accident reports for accuracy and completeness. Enters required report information into the United States Coast Guard Boating Accident Report Database (BARD) in compliance with federal mandates and tracks approval of submissions. Maintains database user accounts for the Bureau and provides technical assistance to employees on the use of BARD.

Compiles, prepares and maintains updated statistical reports, summaries and charts relating to fatal, non-fatal, and property damage boating casualties to support accident prevention programming, to respond to inquiries from other state agencies and the public, or for legislative needs.

Assists the Administrative Supervisor with verifying nightly closeouts, daily deposits, and daily petty cash amounts for cash drawer accuracy.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1.5 Years of additional relevant experience = Associate's Degree

3 Years of additional relevant experience = Bachelor's Degree

4.5 Years additional relevant experience = Master's Degree

Education: High school diploma or high school equivalency credential. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Experience: Three years of experience in a responsible clerical position, including experience in customer service and data entry.

License/Certification: None required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS : Possession of Justice of the Peace designation preferred.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Selected candidate will undergo a fingerprint-based criminal background check and motor vehicle record check in order to ensure suitability for exposure to confidential information.
